I am posting on behalf of a friend who has floaters so bad it is difficult to read a computer screen. 58 year old female, general good health. Nearsighted as a child, wearing glasses since she was 12. The floaters began to develop 3 years ago. She is a graphic designer, so this is very problematic. Reading, TV almost impossible. She can drive during the day, but night driving is difficult as it is worse at night when light is low and/or she is tired. Her eye Dr. told her nothing can be done. Anyone have experience with this? Interestingly, I was recently told of success with eliminating floaters with a glass of red wine and 1 c. of blueberries-but she's hoping there is help with homeopathy. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
Floaters are not necessarily abnormal and most of us have them.
What is abnormal is being sensitive to their presence so much that they impair vision.
The only conclusion is that she is very stresed out for whatever reason and this symptom of "emotional stress" is expressing in this manner.

Yes, we've had a few patients with this symptom and after being prescribed the 'constitutional' similimum have been very well, basically because of being better able to deal with stress along with improvements in other related physical complaints.

The best thing for her is to see a competent homeopath and have a good remedy prescribed for her.
Warm regards,
doctorleela

Thanks, Dr. Leela. That's exactly what my intuition told me, but it's good to get confirmation from you. Will Taylor is here in Portland OR, and I will again suggest that she make an appointment with him. Again, thank you.

Hi Ceros

I like the idea of the red wine!

These things are very annoying I get them from time to time- but of course it could be the red wine that causes them in my case !!

For your interest they can be repertorised under 'muscae volitantes'

I agree; the red wine sounds agreeable, but I would have difficulty holding it to one glass-especially the yummy no-sulfite wine that eliminates hangovers!

I confess I'm not certain what repertory means in homeopathy; does it mean a list of possible remedies? how do I check into this?

Thanks.

Sorry Ceros I thought you were a homeopath-the red wine IS having an effect !!!

A repertory is a book that a homeopath refers to to look up an individual symptom - it gives a list of possible remedies.

Please do as Dr Leela suggests and get the opinion of a reputable homeopath!
And please tell me more about the 'non hangover ' wine !!

Thanks for the clarification on what a repertory is; I've seen them, just didn't know what they were called. I've left a message for my friend to see Dr. Taylor; don't know if she'll follow up, however, as she's under the impression from her mother's experience with homeopathy that the dietary, lifestyle restrictions are so severe she may not want to try it. Oh well. Perhaps if her vison worsens, she will be motivated to call Dr. Taylor.
As to "no-hangover" wine, I discovered this on a trip through Europe when I realized I was sleeping better and not experiencing hangovers, despite the fact that I was drinking much more wine than usual. I asked a wine merchant back in the US and he said the sulfites that are added to most wine in the US, whether produced here or imported, can cause headaches in those who are especially suseptible to sulfites. (There are some "naturally occuring" sulfites in wine). These wines are not to be confused with organic wines, which means the grapes are grown organically, but still may have sulfites added.) In the US there are several brands available that do not have sulfites added, I don't know what the situation is in England. The cost is reasonable; $8-$15 a bottle. I guess you could just ask the person in charge of wine wherever you usually buy wine if they carry any without added sulfites. Incidently, if I do get a queasy feeling during the night or the next day, from ANY wine, I just take some nux vomica and it helps tremendously-this little trick I learned from the students at the Naturopathic college here in Portland!

So, salud!
