Help! I am a 34 year old mother of 3 having chicken pox for the first time. I am absolutely miserable. I could not sleep last night at all. The itching is just awful. The itching on my scalp kept me up all night last night and now the itching is everywhere! I am absolutely covered! I am sure that the itching is helping to spread it as it continues to sprout up in new locations. Is there any remedy that I can take that will help relieve this? I took 30c Rhus Tox and I had no results at all. Could it have made it worse? Please help.

Oat meal baths may help releive the itching. Can you give us some more symptoms like if it is better for heat or cold, how you are feeling in yourself, food or drnk cravings etc. Did you try just one dose of the Rhus Tox? If there has been no result from 3 doses then give up on it!!

Dear Kelli,

You made a good guess taking Rhus tox, sorry it didn't work out for you, but there are other remedies. Do the sores ooze a honey-like discharge and then scab over and is your tongue coated white? Then think of Antimonium Crud. If you have a loose rattling cough, think of Antimonium Tart. Have you become weepy and clingy and desirous of company and sympathy, and are you also thirstless and worse in a warm room?
If so, think of Pulsatilla. If the itching is violent and painful and the scratching also painful and if washing makes it worse, think of Croton Tiglium.

Cool or cold Calendula water might help to sooth the rash.

According to Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman (author of the book I'm using), you should take a 30C of the remedy every 2 to 4 hours until you see improvement. If there is no improvement after 3 doses, start a different medicine. After improvement begins, don't repeat the remedy until there is a relapse--or the start of a relapse. Obviously, if you get worse, stop the remedy.

Let me know if you need more help.

Thank you for the responses.

I also tried Puls. when the Rhus tox didn't help. And it didn't work either. But I only took one dose. So I will try another dose and see what happens. I do want company, comfort, I'm a bit whiney about the misery and absolutely thirstless. I have to remind myself to drink water. The itching on my scalp feels like ants crawling all over my head, and I feel like I will go crazy unless I itch it. As soon as the vesicles pop they scab over and then don't itch as much. But that does not diminish the itching on my head. I've been in the bath many times and its such a relief when I am in the water, but when I get out it only takes about 5-10 minutes until I want to itch again. So the only relief is in the bath. I am hoping that I will at least be able to sleep a little bit tonight. My baby of 7 months and my 3 year old have it too, but definitely not as bad. They are not even fussy. My 7 year old is over it. Phew! I will be so relieved to see the end of the tunnel here and be on the other side. I feel like I will never have clear skin again.!

Dear kelli

Amelioration in a cool bath supports Pulsatilla.
Amelioration in a warm bath supports Rhus tox.

Kelli,

I got chicken pox when I turned forty. It was a bad case, I was covered, also my tongue and inside nostrils, but, I never itched!

Years later I read that vitamin C prevents itching. The one thing I did was that I took powdered vit C in water from the time I was diagnosed. I took it because I was concerned about the possibility of pneumonia but it must have also kept me from itching.

It is true that I started taking it early but it's worth a try.

Congratulations, btw, you never have to worry about getting it again!

Contenta

Hi Kelli,

When nothis is clearly indicated or works, its best to take a dose of Variolinum 30. You may repeat too even twice a day till you feel better. IT helps clear up scabs and marks quickly too.

ALl the best,
doctorleela
