Hallo Ricky
Coming back to your evaluation.
My analysis is different.
The remedies only act within their sphere of action.(outlined in the provings)
Stram in this case was similar to the anxiety, but dissimilar to the chest symptoms.
Therefore it was unsuitable, as the result has shown.
And another thing it has shown as well, that there might be many remedies in every given case of disease, which do ‘’something’’, but one should not be fooled around thinking, the selection was right and that this is a problem of wrong potency, wrong application, if the main symptom is getting worse and like in this case, the whole thing ends up in hospital.
This has nothing to do with patient-individuality, this is due to remedyaction, and this is well established in the provings.
It is the disease with its multitude of expression in all areas of live, which demands the remedy, and not one area like: mental, emotional, physical.
Am I’m preaching? Yes, a little bit, because I feel strong about this point.

Ps.: I could not give another remedy, because the parents had enough of this kind of homeopathy. (Who wouldn’t)

I've been wondering what is strange, rare and peculiar about a child feeling anxious while having an asthma attack in the night. Hans, do you mean the child had an emotional upset which then resulted in an asthma attack during which they appeared to be delusional? Was that your basis for using 'delusion' rubrics?

Better in themselves but worse in the physicals (asthma) could have been seen as direction of cure - the unfortunate thing is that so many physical pathologies are dangerous enough without an aggravation. I too have had this problem with serious asthma sometimes.

I also recall the case of Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome I cured with Ammonium-bromatum, based on mentals. That patient ended up in hospital with his aggravation, although he felt better in himself, and 2 years later is is still free of his illness. I think this is more of a potency/ dosage issue rather than remedy choice.

Hallo to All
this case happened to me in the early 90'. the anxieties were there before the active phase of the asthma, and remained unchanged with the onset of it. From my current knowledge, I would not have taken the anxieties into consideration for my first prescribtion. What happened then was that after leaving off the steroids the asthma came out full force, and ran its course, unchanged by the Stram, and followed its tendency to get worse.
The sphere of action is not directly related to the multitude of symptoms numerically a remedy has brought out. it is defined by the characteristics and the combination of them.

Interesting - I have to say I have not had a case of the main complaint actually getting worse. What I have had is that the remedy has improved everything else but the presenting complaint!! I wonder here that if the patient had persisted with homeopathy would the PC have gone eventually on the remedy. With other patients a change of remedy is required. I suppose I zig zag but provided the patient's health is getting better and they are happy that is fine as far as I am concerned. I do get cases when I give a "best fit" remedy and then am amazed to find that it has done the trick.
A comment on what you wrote now.

I don't believe that many of the provings are complete and a lot need to be reproved. Many of the provings where carried out on such a small number of people that the remedy sphere could easily have actions of which we are not aware. These are what I call clinical provings. e.g. I have had 4 different children for which Phos.has been the required remedy, tell me that in the dark they won't go passed an uncurtained window as there is something out there pointing something at them!!! Now you won;t find that in a proving that I know of. also I have now had 2 children whose parents have told me that they pile on clothes in summer and take them off in the winter!!! Both needed Carcinosin talking of which would you use this remedy as I don;t think it is one used by Boeninghaussen and I couldn;t do without it in my practice!!
I don't mind you preaching at me as I might easily learn something new as I am always open to it.

A little point that confused me about Hans' case was:
"Stram in this case was similar to the anxiety, but dissimilar to the chest symptoms."

How then did the remedy bring out the chest symptoms, if they did not belong to Stram's symptom picture?

IF the steroids were stopped abruptly this would have been the reason for the agg. Steroids must be cut down very slowly and there is no way I would allow an asthma patient to stop taking them with the permission and guidance from the patient's GP. I have got many kids off their steroid inhalers by this method. Most I have found are taking them for no apparent reason as they have been prescribed at a very young age when they had a wheeze and continued ever since (years in some cases) without even attending a regular asthma clinic. I see this all the time!!
