Dear Barb,
How can I ignore a "Pretty Puhleeeeeese"!? First of all, how do you pronounce it? You're not going to like this. I have Yasgur's Dictionary, which tells you the correct pronunciation of almost all the remedies, and the truth is, we're pronouncing many of them wrong, and Baryta Carb is no exception! I say "Bar-etta" and some say "Bar-eat-uh", but the actual pronunciation is (hold on to your hats!) Bar-eye-tuh; I kid you not. I promise you that no one is saying "Bar-eye-tuh" Carb, so take your pick. Baretta, as I like to say, has delayed development; slow learning to walk and talk. They can actually be retarded. Sometimes the child is fine 'til vaccination, and then they go downhill. They're in Special Ed. They have a big forehead and a dumb look on their face. They're clumsy. Not putting out enough growth hormone. It's a big hormonal remedy. Stunted growth. Poor learning skills. Flat feet, over-weight. They waddle, stutter and mumble. Joyful and shy. Everything's either real funny or scary. They're < strangers. Fear of being alone. They hide--behind their mother, the furniture, their hands.... Facial expression of dumb wonderment. Enlarged tonsils. Remedy for senile persons acting childishly, crying, etc. Etiology may be a stroke. Calc-sil.: Weak, emaciated, cold and chilly. Constantly catching cold; extremely sensitive to drafts, cold air; < exertion; < becoming over-heated. Lacks confidence. Fearful. Always so tired. Despairing. Easily angered and < from anger. Can't concentrate on what he is reading or listening to. Stares into space, doesn't reply when spoken to. Sees and talks to the dead. Mutters foolish things. Dreams of the dead. Emaciation in children. Weakness upon waking, on exertion--mental or physical--and walking in open air. Nervous weakness. Least exertion prostrates. < in wet weather. Yellow/green mucus. Swollen glands with hardness. I must tell you, I've never seen or read about a Calc-sil. case. Also, there are those who will tell you that a person doesn't have to be retarded to get Bar-c. The idea of Bar-c. is one of dependence and helplessness, and there are many "compensated" Baryta Carbs--people who have learned to "act" grown-up. Sorry Snoopy - we call it bar-eye-ta here downunder!
Notes from college: Baryta's high atomic number develops the expression of the Syphilitic miasm in a big way. Baryta excels in the degenerative expression, it's next in line Stront. develops in addition, the ulcerative aspects. Baryta has a strong carry forward baliance from parents; the Syphilitic traits are abundant. At birth the infant may have a cleft palate or a valvular defect in the heart or defects in the development of the brain. Hypersensitivity combines with a defect in the transmission system. Excessively recorded inputs from the environment get distorted in transmission and we find outputs which fail to balance. This guarantees confusion at all levels, in different areas and shich is manifested temorally as well a qualitatively. In Baryta children, due to the confusion created at the temporal level, there is no balance, The time clock is altered and patchy development in the form of single effects dominates. Milestones are either delayed especially in one area , or there may be a qualitative impairment in their expression. In the growing infant, the fontanelles are found to remain open too long, the talking is delayed or sluggish, the infant does not mix or play with other children around, bein shy: often, he is seen quittly sitting in one corner, no-co-operative, suggish and obstinate. It is this dullness that is oftne interpreted as obstinacy. But it should not be forgotten that an intelligent child can be baryta. One can easily miss baryta in a child of this type. The TIME-CLOCK imbalance that is an unmistakable stamp of baryta. eg: sitting -6months (slow) Teething - 1 year ( late) Walking - 10 months ( early) Talking - 2 years (late) thermals - hot, often creamish coating on tongue, and glands affected. At school, reports are poor and the child is often declared dull. perception is poor, memory defective, and finds it difficult to read. The confused mind due to forgetfulness and shyness, brings in a profound feeling of anxiety, fear and vexation, which confound him further. The anxiety is of an anticipatory as well as agitational type. there are staph infections to kidneys and heart problems from rhuematic fever. The nervous system show irritability and tantrums at the mental level and spasm at the muscular level. the child is always snuffly with wet croup/bronchitis. The Syphilitic miasm doninates the scene from infancy to old age. Early greying of hair and aging is frequent, the person appearing older that what he is. Arteriosclerosis sets in quite early. Hardening of the arteries gives rise to the sstolic hypertension where the pulse pressure is very great. Baryta demonsteates a close correspondence to Sil and Calc, in slowness as the fundamental trait. At the heart of baryta is shyness. There is forgetfullness, confusion, anticipatory/agitational anxiety, there is order lacking . The responses can be irrssolute, inappropriate in gestures/speech, showing envy, jealousy, suspicion. There is delusion paranoid states, periodicity. Overall there is confusion, patchy development, hypersensitivity, distorted transmission. Inputs that bother them are noise, odour, touch, excitement, exertion, strangers, damp, thinking , imagination, eatind. the un- co- ordination is a key note. There may be a marked difference in either physical/mental development, for example different sized breasts. They are not always "slow" mentally, but there is a childishness, with a part of them always remaining in the childish world. They are smart enough to recognise that they are not smart enough. They will be the child on the sidelines. Hatred of being teased, so will not take part because of fear of ridicule. They concentrate on the trivial things. There was more, but I think I've paraphrased the gist of it - I don't know the original source, but it was given as class notes when we were doing the Carbs. ![]() |

My 14 year old daughter was given Baryta Carb about 2 weeks ago. As far as I could tell the homeopath honed in on late developement physically. ie: one breast started budding 1 full year before other one did (though both are same size now - but still small like her mother). She still has not started her periods (but glad of it). She is not dull. She is often top of the class, but she does have to work at it. I find that she is not a very logical thinker, will not try to think things through if she doesnt have to. She has always been cautious around strangers or in new situations so therefore perceived as shy or aloof. In grade one she had extra speech therapy due to lisping. Another thing that the homeopath found fascinating was that she had a fear of getting her legs cut off!!! Is that fear listed under Baryta Carb. in any of the MMs? Which one? Just thought I would add this in since I have been following this thread with interest since it started less than a week after she was given a dose 1M. Her teenage acne almost completely dissapeared within 2 days. She still has some breakouts but not like it was. She is very happy.
She hit all the milestones right on time or a little ahead of time. turning over, crawling, walking talking etc. She does have flat feet but is certainly not fat/chubby (though I used to call her my little buddah when she was a rolly polly infant). She is now a slim/lean (not skinny), well coordinated, creative, proud, outgoing, young woman. Though she can be very moody and oversensitive - cries easily. All for now, just thought I would add my 2 cents. [ 31 December 2001: Message edited by: jayj ]</p> |
