I just stopped taking synthroid and started taking a homeopathic remedy called Thyroid Support by Natra-Bio. When I called the co. for info about the product, the sales rep. said I would have to take this for the rest of my life. I am looking for a much shorter term solution. Does anyone have info on homeopathic remedies for an under active thyroid? How long would I have to take this remedy and how often each day? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

If you have to take it for the rest of your life what you have been given is NOT a homeopathic remedy. Find out what is in it and let us know.

Dear Ricky,
Thanks for the response. I have the bottle right in front of me. It contains: Thyroidinum (which is thyroid gland) 8X; Inactive: Purified Water, 20% USP Alcohol.
I would also like to know if the thyroid gland is from an animal. I am a vegetarian.
Thanks again,
Vale

Yes it is a homeopathic remedy but if it is the correct one for you you should get to the state when you don't need it any more.

I'm afraid it is animal but extremely dilute as if there is nothing there. I am not at home at the moment but when I am I will try to find the exact source and let you know.

It has been made from the extract of fresh thyroid gland of a sheep or calf. Remember to put this into perspective. The animal will not have been killed for this sole purpose and the thyroid gland would have been thrown away.

it depends on the reason why your thyroid is underactive what the response will be

soya and aluminium knock out the thyroid as does radiation etc but the commonest reason is auto immune destruction and homeopathy may or may not be able to turn it around

Thanks for the replies. I just got another bottle of Thyroid Support and it seems to be making a difference. I will get my thyroid re-checked after the New Year and let you know what's what.
Thanks again.

Be careful w/the thyroid support...I hae Hashimotos which I understand is true of 90% of hypothyroid cases...The Thyroidinium caused my hair to start falling out (it was only dry before)...that was almost a year ago and my hair still is falling more rapidly than it should... I didn't take near as much as you have taken of it, but I would be cautions...If you have Hashimotos there is little you can do - the only thing that has helped so far is the Armour (from pigs)...if you want to go Vegetarian on this thing then the chemical Synthroid is your way out...far less healthy though I'm sure. I just went to a naturopath last week and she said Candida/yeast overgrowth is my problem ($150 computer testing)...I have read that it can hamper the thyroid and it makes sense since my system is extremely acid...particularly when I eat certain things.

Hope this helps a little. Nancy

Oh, one other thing, it seems that progesterone enhances the thyroid function...I have a friend that's been on provera for a couple years / she was on thyroid for 20 years and had to stop the thyroid cause she was becoming hyperthyroid on it...seems the progesterone got the thyroid to a more normal speed. Just a thought...but I would only recommend the natural ...altered wild yam (Natural Woman is the brand John Lee supports)
