I've heard that caffeine can cause fibroids in the uterus as well as lumps in the breast. Is there research to back this up? What are the risks of caffeine use? Is there a resonable amount that is acceptable?

See if you can get a hold of the monograph by Hahnemann "On the effects of coffee" or try to find a materia medica online. There is nothing in Clarke's MM that would conform what you have mentioned about tumours, lumps and fybroids and I have not found it in any of the others I have, like Hering, TF Allen and others. According to Hahnemann the safest amount is zero. I must say that when I still drank coffee, my bowels were shocking and that within a week after the last cup they were normal.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. I have been off for two weeks and my allergies are intolerable. I'm not sure what I will do, but like you am finding it hard to link the tumors and the caffeine though have 'heard' it from several sources.

Okay. There are other ways to get caffeine than coffee. Does the caffeine in green tea have an effect on homeopathics? I have heard of many benefits from green tea. What about black tea?

THe literature published by our local Breast Clinic (Wende Logan Young Clinic- best in upstate NY) asks women to not have any caffeine for 1(-2?) weeks before a mamagram because it will harden or enlarge breast lumps (?) - I can't remember the exact relationship, sorry, but there is some relationship there. THe literature doesn't say that caffeine is responsible for causing a lump to occur only that it will have an affect on the breat. Wish I could recall the info exactly but this is the best I can do for now.

TO: cscottie - just a note to let you know 2 of my sisters and 1 sister-law had problems with lumps and benign cysts in the breasts...all were advised to give up caffeine....all have had NO trouble since giving up the caffeine. There are 5 girls in the family and the problem does not seem to affect the rest of us or our mother. All 3 of these women lead different life styles and right now all I can think of is that link???? We don't know the family history of the sister-in-law, as her mother died when she was 13, but the 5 sisters were all brought up fairly similar. Hope this helps a bit.

Black tea is fermented, and will cause flatus, green tea will not, provided that you are not a china patient, or belonging to another remedy that has agg from tea.
caffeine, will stop some homeopatic remedies, and also interfear with allopahty, so its best avoided, when stopping coffe, remember that you stop all products containg coffe, as coca cola, Pepsi, etc and some brand of chocolate. Best remedy to stop coffe witout getting abstinence is coffe x12(d12) taken two times dayly 3 pills, in three days, while lowering coffe intake down to 3 cups, then the next day, stop all coffe.

Yvonne, did you give up caffeine or coffee? Since green tea does have some caffeine, I wanted to clarify. I think this thread is using coffee and caffeine interchangeably. I would imagine that decaf coffee affects homeopathy just like the regular coffee. Those of you who know, please clarify. Thanks!

to: mamma3 - I have not drank any caffeine products for several years as I get REALLY hyper and actually feel nauseous when I do. I have 1 cup of Decaf coffee every morning (unless I am taking a Homeopathic remedy that FORBIDS coffee. (I would love to find a coffee substitute in the morning, but even though I have decaf, I really seem to need it) I drink decaf green tea. I don't drink cola, mountain dew or hot chocolate. If I have a chocolate - i have ONE (I really want more, but I know what the caffeine will do to me) I would be thrilled to hear that decaf coffee does not affect remedies - I love the smell of coffee and coffee flavored treats!
