Try hepar sulfuris, had the same problem myself, the cause is a infection in a root canal, not nessceary the one mentioned, but a other, and the pain can com from that into this tooth, what happens, is during a infection gas is produced that goes into the malar bones causing this, and if a hole is filled, the gas cant escape, it suggesst a inflamation in another thoot. You will find sepia in some cases to be helpful, and calcium phos, as cp dont like wind/air. But smelly feet and cold, suggests hepar sulf or sulphur, or ac n, sepia. ( and calc carb).

Here is a "first aid" remedy recommendation: for nerve pain, including and especially for tooth nerve pain, AND SHOOTING PAINS (like you describe your daughter's) use Hypericum. In Dr. Shepherd's first aid book she states "every 2 hours"...or "three times a day"...and other similar suggestions of recommended frequency in these cases (she quotes from many of her experiences with various cases of pain).

Your daughter may be instructed to "take Hypericum every 2 hours, but stop as soon as the pain subsides".

Now, this is NOT a constitutional prescription. Hypericum, like Arnica, has excellent proven positive effects "for the general population" in various ACUTE situations.

Let me know how she does. It sure sounds as if her situation can happen to anyone!! These dental circumstances are very common. From the level of pain she is experiencing, and given the x-ray showed no infection, it is highly likely that the nerve is screaming. I will look forward to hearing that the Hypericum removes the pain and quiets that nerve and allows her the time to decide what to do next.

There are things to consider in the near future. For now, for the present, please deliver a nice bottle of Hypericum to her and get rid of that pain!!

Let me know what happens!!

As most of you homeopaths know it is near impossible to prescribe for family as you are too close!!

My daughter has had a sensitive tooth for a few months. a couple of months ago she saw a dentist, the only one where she lives who removed an old amalgam filling causing lots of debris in her moth and replaced it with another! The sensitivity is no better. Today she saw him again in desperation and he wanted to remove the new filling in order to put a desensitising substance on and refill. After giving her , she thinks, 8 injections to numb pain he gave up as she was still in agony if he blew air over the tooth. He gave her anti biotics to take and said come back in a week to see if it has calmed done by then! An Xray showed no infection.

Symptoms - upper molar/premolar on right side. Left alone the gum "feels funny". It is a dull ache which spreads to the face. It is sensitive to hot, cold, and air. Not so much to touch. The sensitivity is a shooting pain. The problem is < night. The whole thing is making her very irritable and sometimes she can't sleep because of the ache in gums, face and spreads to head.

From what i can gather from a dentist friend the problem is probably an oversensitive nerve.

We have tried, Bryonia 6 and 30 - nothing.
Nitric acid 30 to remove any damage from the mercury vapours from the amalgam removal as things have definitly been worse since then. This made things a little better. Today she has taken Phos. 30 to remove damage from the injections. Since everything was throbbing tonight I suggested Bell 30. I haven't heard from her since as she has probably gone to sleep.

Anyone any further suggestions please? She has a high pain threashold and since she is my daughter I have not much idea on a constitutional!! Maybe Causticum or Silica. She suffers from acne, lives on her own out of preference, is veggie, has always had smelly feet and is chilly.

Why oh why was I unable to think of Hypericum? If a patient had come to see me with nerve pain this would have been the first Rx I would have thought of!! I told her to start taking it this morning but when I phoned tonight she said she had taken 3 Ibuprofen today and that had worked!! We are talking of a person who never takes allopathic medicines so she must be desperate. I have told her to start taking it this evening and then maybe she won't need the ibuprofen tomorrow!! By the way she didn't even try the bell.

Thank you GM. Lets get the pain away and then it sounds a good idea to go for the hepar in case there is an underlying infection. Unfortunately she has decided to take the antibiotics but knowing her as soon as she starts the normal agg. of thrush from it she will pack them up. As I said before she must be desperate to be actually take them. She is taking acidophilus just in case as well. My daughter worked her way through university at a Health Food Store so knows her herbs, Vitamins and minerals etc better than me.

Ibuprofen is the only painkiller i allow to use, its not so damaging to the liver, if it is. Be certain that she will get a reocurrences of this problem, its a nother thoot causing this, better find it, acupuncture, and acupressure, shiatsu etc, all tell what thoot it is, get rid of it even if seeming healthy, its not, i assure you of that, dont want other to feel what did, extrating a inflamed thoot, worst i ever experienced.
Hypericum dont work so good if the cause is a inflammation with gasproduction, only hepar do, as hepar assimilates the gas, (pyrogenium does also that), the pain is from the gaspressure on other nerves.

Last night she took Hyper. 30 at 9.30pm again at 11.30pm. Couldn't sleep in the night so took another and 2 ibuprofen 200g.
This morning she has just phoned me from work. The dull ache is still there. It is in the right upper gum and extends up the side of her face to the head. Occasionally it will go to the bottom gum. She is irritable with the constant ache and can't concentrate. I told her to continue the 30's today at 3 a day and am sending today some 200's. I have told her to take one only and if nothing happens go onto the Hepar 30 which I am also sending. Am also sending 200's. Any ideas on this. She returns to the dentist on Thursday. Thanks.

Just to let you know that I see Clarke wrote that "Gilchrist used Hyper 3x, every 20 minutes, even for up to twelve hours, until pain goes away". Can you get her this lower potency to try, in addition to all else you are doing?

It seems that if the pain is new-ish, the frequent repetition of LOW potencies of Hyper are often used, and do work for lots (though not all) of people in this "acute prescribing" fashion. Older nerve pain seems to call for higher potencies, but also I'd advise talking with your daughter and getting at least an inkling of her constitution (this tooth thing may be providing a good opportunity to pick up on some of her previously-hidden modalities! an opportunity for you her thoughtful dad, but ouch, not pleasant for her!do you want to offer some more of your constitutional type observations of her here??) as you continue to seek to assist her.

Shepherd, whom I originally quoted, speaks of using the lower potencies AS FREQUENTLY AS IS CALLED FOR...in other words, until the pain goes away.

Firstly, I'm my daughter's Mother not Father, but how you would be able to know which I wouldn't know!!

She has been suffering for weeks with this problem which started as sensitive teeth. It is a couple of months since she had the original filling removed ( see above) and a new one put in. It has gradually got worse.

About my daughter, where do I start? She is a very private person, who has many friends. People seem to home in on her. She is very generous to others in need. As a student she was always lending money when people were broke and sometimes didn't get it back. She enjoys her own company and even as a child would go to her room to read or draw rather than watch the TV. She was born probably a month late ( I had no dates as found out I was 5 months pregnant when my other child was 7 months old!) There were no scans then. She was born naturally and easily, weighed 3 kg but had to have mucus sucked from her before she breathed. She was very long and skin and bone as my placenta was nearly shrivelled up!! She was breast fed until 5 months, a placid baby who didn't gain weight. At13 months old she had her adenoids removed as they were congenitally large and she wasn't eating much or drinking and weight the amount of a 6 month old. She also had a constant snotty nose and catarrh. She talked early but didn't get her first tooth until 13 months and didn't walk until 16 months. I found her reading by the street light at age 3 yrs, we don't know how she learnt but my eldest read at 18 months after I taught him. She virtually had to bring herself up as the eldest was hyperactive and demanded constant attention. She was always a placid child, no trouble, very artistic and very musical. She can play virtually any instrument you put in front of her and has achieved Grade 8 ( the top) in piano. She gained a Grade 5 dinstinction in the trumpet at age 9 and then refused to play it again!!
She is also talented mathematically - she could add up double numbers at age 5 in her head! Bone idle at school, scrapped all her exams and did a Maths degree at University and is now in computers which she finds boring. Basically we have someone who is so laid back she could fall over!! She was still losing baby teeth at 18!!

After being skin and bone, but tall, all through childhood at puberty she grew quickly and has a broad heavy frame with large hands and feet. She is not skinny any more but what you would call well built, not fat. She had the usual childhood vaccinations except TB, as every time she had the test she came out in eczema on her inner elbows. She had eczema from puberty to about age 18 on the inside of her elbows mostly and badly around her eyes. Now the only thing she seems to have left is a very itchy scalp with eczema like patches. She has exercise induced asthma and occasional uses ventolin. She also has acne on her face which is worse around menses. I believe menses is normal and regular, I know she has never had any pain. Although she has had boyfriends, she has not , at age 24 been sexually active. She is waiting for the right one!!!

Smelly feet always, is strict vegetarian ( I think she eats too much dairy) since age 13 and won't eat any foods by Nestle. She cooks for herself very healthy, mostly organic foods. Does not usually have anything to do with allopathy.

I have never known her in a temper. I remember once not letting her go out for some reason and she went to her room. I went up later and asked why wasn't she banging the furniture around. She replied "What's the point". She has got upset on a couple of occasions. Once with a best friend who she got toatally fed up with because this friend was always telling her what to do and she got upset. Another time she went abroad with a male friend for company and was upset from the start of the holiday because he kept pulling her down by saying how superior he was to her inintelligence. She dicusses all this with me and told me with both if them that she realises that they have the problem not her but it still upsets her the way they treated her. She is still friendly with the male but rarely speaks to the female now.

When she was in her middle teens every year for about 3 or 4 years in July she used to get a crop of strange boils on her arms. they would come up in ones and went with courses of very strong antibiltics which was when she also got the thrush and used Canestan for that.

She used to get sore throats I think and has often got styes. As a baby she had infected fingers around the nails. She had styes a week ago and treated them with euphrasia tincture.

I think she is either Causticum or Silica as when I have looked up any complaints these 2 Rx are always there. She has not as yet taken any of them even when I've asked her to!

She lives in a flat on her own and refuses to share with anyone although it is financially difficult for her. She spends all the money that she has, doesn't seem to be able to save.

Over to you if you have the time.
