I read in Materia Medica "Sulphuric acid mixed with three parts of alcohol, ten to fifteen drops three times daily for several weeks, has been Successfully used to subdue the craving for liquor." has any one tried this approach, are there any other remedies which can subdue craving for liquor. and how should give this remedy, should I use attenuation, tincture 30c or 200c.

Regardless the origin of the craving, which is the underlyinmg state, you can give Strophantus mother tincture in 20 drops in a galss of water and the person will never drink again. Then you can address the underlying mental state and cure him. Otherwise, like with Lachesis, he would antidote it by drinking alcohol. Clarke has an intersting piece on this. I have followed and never seen it fail.

Avena Sativa in Mother tincture is meant to help but I would want to take a full case history to find out why he has the craving!

Ben - i've just looked looked up the remedy you suggested above and it looks ideal as a heart tonic for my 87 year old Mother who has an enlarged heart, oedema in ankles and dypsnoea ascending!! She is Arsenicum constitutionally and that covers any of her ills but I have not been able to do anything about the heart problem. She is basically fit other than that and controls the dypsnoea by walking 3 steps and stopping if she has to walk uphill.

How would I tell her to take it? I will get some and take it to Israel with me when I go next time.

Look up crataegus, its for a weak heart, use from 3 to 20 drops in a glass of water from one to five times a day, after her reactions to it, be careful, as it is individual how mutch she can take of it.
For hearttrouble, also look up Spigelia.

ricky, you would possibly like to work that in the potencies. Regarding her age, I would start with a 6x or 6c and as the improvement stops on divided doses ( in water, only when needed) of say 1 drop, then to go to 8c, 10c, 12c, 15c, 18c, 24c, 30c. you may find that as she gets better that the gaps begin to become bigger between potencies. Or you may give LM to begin with LM 1 as per organon. I would like the LM best here, but to make sure, give a dose of 6c first. More chance for a slight aggravation, like a flush, and the next dose is LM.

Thanks Ben. I will get some 6c and take it next time I go there. What do you mean by divided doses? Do you mean dissolve the pilule in water and give a teaspoon 3 times a day until improvement? I really am not into LM's. I haven't had use them up to now. If necessary I make up a water potency.

a divided dose is actually the dissolving of a drop or a pillule in water and giving teaspoon doses.
