Please, what are the main remedies for newborn jaundice, and how do you differentiate? Thanks so much.

Is your doctor concerned about the jaundice? Is the baby breastfed or formula? Has the "level" of jaundice been checked? Mild jaundice is now thought to have antioxidative properties on the liver and be beneficial. PLease write back with more details.

Dear Kescah,

(some) new born jaundice remedies= acon,bov,chin,nat-s,podo,sep,........

But you know that we need to approach this from a wider view. Differentiation comes from observation and/or interrogation.

1st determine:

Was it traumatic for the mother?
Was it induced?
Were forceps used?
Was over extensive force used by mother to give birth?
Was it a C-section?
Premature or Not?
What was the mother's MOOD and HEALTH during pregnancy up to giving birth?

Were any drugs used during pregnancy or during parturition?

Does the jaundice cover the child's body ? or just spots? or rings? (please explain)

What is the condition and characteristics of the child's stool? Constipation?

When was the child born? How is the child's appetite? What are the current sleep characteristics of the child?

Is the child showing any DISCOMFORT to the situation? What is the child's general mood? or extreme moods (if any)?

If this is desperatly important, then the parents should best treat with the means that are readily AVAILABLE.

If not, then please feel free to respond to the questions.

Thank you both. The Mom is breastfeeding. Her pregnacy was a happy occassion and she has a loving husband. However, she has a lot of trauma in her personal background which causes her to cry over little things like movies. She has a fear of needles, which were used on her during labor, and she felt panicy due to being surrounded by doctors and nurses during labor and delivery. Her water broke two weeks early and they induced labor with Pitocin IV- although she did not begin to dilate for 2 days afterward, and then she dilated from 2 to 10 in two hours and gave birth. During that time she was given an antibiotic and a spinal. She does not know the names of the drugs. She had a mean nurse who used bad technique (such as elevating her catheter bag to get it out of the way, which the Mom knew was wrong. Mom told her to lower it and she would not,) and seemingly enjoyed terrorizing Mom with the needle for the IV. Even changed hands after getting it into the first hand. The nurse spoke sarcasticly to the mother and told her to shut up. However, the birth went well after 48 hours of no labor in the hospital. There were no forceps used. No over extensive force. Two weeks early. The jaundice level has been 17 for two days (baby was born Sunday morning) and the jaundice covers the body. The stool is yellow and watery. The baby had some colic which has responded well to Chamomilla 30c. He now has a good appetite and sleeps well days. He looks healthy other than jaundiced, but the mother is constantly saying that she is afraid he will die. His mood seems good, he looks around when awake.
Thanks for your attention to this,
Kescah

Fear of needles is calcium carb, and its in my practice often seen that the body is disturbed, by the mineral fluid the put in the veins in sutch cases, most often the 1st hom remedy is Natr mur, second calc c, third kalium carb.
I would say, take a closer look at calcium carb.

Its important to note that in the healthy, full-term baby, billirubin levels below 23 to 29 mg/dl have not been associated with short- or long-term health effects (Newman and Klebanoff). I am concerned that the baby sleeps well during the day. The baby needs to nurse 10 to 12 times in a 24 hour period. Elevated billi levels may make the baby more tired. The mother needs to make sure she wakes the baby to nurse every two hours. The billirubin leaves the body through the bowels, and you can't have output if there's not enough input. Breastmilk is better than formula or water at excreting billirubin because it is assimilated by the infant better. Also, see Johnstanton's post for you on the discussion forum. It is important to take care of the mother's feelings. She was/is very overwhelmed.

Indeed a level of jaundice is normal. Kescah, have you thought at all about my suggestion of Sul and Calc.c. for the new-born? You may find that the complications feared, all stay away. But you handle this, so sorry for butting in.

Thanks so much! I have only the 30c and it would be Monday before I could have the 1M, so I'll go ahead with one dose of 30c. If you want to comment on that, whether he may need more than one dose, or whatever, go ahead and I'll watch for comments. Thanks!
