Does anyone know what foods, drinks, and drugs should I avoid while taking Sepia?

According to GM anything acid, lemon, citric acid, vinegar. However I have never found that a problem when prescribing Sepia. I tend to tell al my patients to stay off coffee and minty things + menthol, some aromatherapy oils etc. I have to say that I am a believer in that if the correct remedy is found for the patient nothing much is going to antidote it!!

I agree absolutely. I have almost never seen a good remedy antidoted by food or drink of any sort.

In fact, I prefer patients don't suddenly stop something they are used to taking, as this can suddenly alter the symptom picture. It is then difficult to know whether the remedy had an effect or stopping the particular substance did.

Another reason for not asking people to give up a whole lot of things they may like, is that it makes the whole treatment that much more difficult for them. I prefer to make things as easy as possible, not get into an issue about COMPLIANCE, which is the big thing in orthodox medicine. I prefer to talk about CO-OPERATION with my patients, which means I would rather they binged on coffee and told me, than keep it a secret or decide that coffee is more important to them than homoeopathy.

I usually see patients choosing on their own to give up certain things as they get healthier. This is a much better way for them to do it,rather than having me standing over them like some sort of parent figure demanding they obey me or else.

And besides, there is little point. I have many patients who continue to do well despite drinking coffee several times a week or having a glass of wine at dinner- even on those remedies listed as being antidoted by these things!

On another site I asked a group of homoeopaths if they had ever seen their patients' cases antidoted by coffee, acids, tomatoes etc, and I think I was given only TWO instances in total!!!! So we are assuming the worst when it is most certainly the exception.

Cool

Thanks. I had a feeling it doesn't matter too much but I hear stuff and think "oh no". I guess you can not be finatical about it but I know I completely stopped drinking coffee so that I could go on Homeopathy and I loved having a cup of coffee every morning.I guess I wanted to get Better so I did what ever it would take.

Thanks for the advice.

I understand what David and Ricky have said, but I disagree just slightly.

Sepia was indicated in me a couple of years ago. I took it, made some progress that was very shortlived, but was never told about coffee, acids/vinegars(citrus too) - and I was told to repeat the dose several times. Each time, the same thing. I felt great for a day or two, then boom !

It was only later, that I really realised that Sepia never had a chance in ME because in ME it was being antidoted. From my understanding, Sepia is one of the remedies that is easiest to antidote. Not all remedies are easily antidote, so I'm not preaching here, okay .

So, if you can do without sour things - acids, vinegar and coffee for a while, then it can't hurt to see if the remedy takes hold. (Especially if these things are not some huge feature in your diet).

My only worry with being too cautious and making drastic changes, suddenly are for the reasons David stated above - that it could somehow alter the picture and then you wouldn't know what affected you - giving up something you were addicted to, or the remedy itself. In this case, I would choose to stop coffee, wait a while, then see if my symptoms changed on their own.

I'm not suggesting this, but I thought it would at least be food for thought (no pun ).

If you can do without them - you have at least a better chance of NOT antidoting the remedy since it is more sensitive than most remedies .

All the best,
Lisa

Well that did happen to me too. I was on Sepia for my period and after the first month of being on it was amazing. My period was so much better I couldn't believe it. Then the secomnd month it reverted back but I had no ide why either did my homeopath. he told me to stay away from camphor, mint, coffee etc. but he did not go into specifics.

Hi Danielle, I'm sure the others will be able to better explain this than me....
but sometimes when symptoms come back it isn't always because the remedy was antidoted.

Have to take the duration of the remedy into consideration (although even that is not always an exact prediction! as some rem's continue in patients for longer ..just shows how complex all this can be to learn!).

Anyhow, I understand that when symtpoms come back to the same state but the remedy DID work nicely before - that it means you need another dose (possibly a higher potency depending on what your prescriber practises)......so, there you have it..another little spanner in the works. Sorry it any of this was confusing...
And, please - if I'm wrong about this or it is oversimplified - do correct me guys .

All the best to you , Danielle,
Lisa

There are several reasons why symptoms come back

1. They were not cured, merely palliated, and they simply re-established themselves once the action of the remedy wore off.

2. The remedy was not strong enough, the illness has more power or is very deep, and the potency or dosage needs to be adjusted.

3. There is a miasmatic remedy needed to remove an obstacle to cure.

4. The patient has suffered a trauma which stimulates the illness again, because that trauma closely resembles the "original trauma" in the person's life. To some degree, for awhile anyway, certain people remain susceptible to certain aggravating events. This shouldn't be the case for long through the patient's treatment. Cure should mean removing this susceptibilty.

5. The remedy was given again either too soon, or in a higher potency before the current potency was exhausted. This extra dose causes a proving in the sensitive individual, or antidotes its own action, which means that it was only palliative anyway.

6. A skin eruption, discharge, or other minor symptom was suppressed with either a remedy or another form of medicine, and according to Direction of Cure, the illness was moved back into its original position.

After eight years of treating patients, I am convinced that only palliative remedies can be antidoted. Curative ones should have cured, not still be "in action" holding the disease down. The disease should not be there to be let loose again. At least not in its original form.

A disease can "grow" back again if it is not completely cured, taking into account complementary remedies and miasmatic treatment. A case rarely responds to one remedy, several are needed to ensure the patient stays as healthy as long as possible.

Question

Right now I am taking Sepia again. Someone on line mentioned taking Sepia 30c 1 pellet 3 times a day. He said to drop the 30c pellet in an amber bottle and pund it in the palm of my hand 10 times. Then take two capfulls and pour it into a glass of water half full and take a swallow. I did notice just a little difference bit I still felt irritable and crampy and needed to take some advil. Since I didn't have a chance to take it a week before my period started I had to take it a day before so it's hard to tell what effect it has although usually I would need more advil and my blood flow might be more than it is now. I also am not to crazy about taking the remedy in water. Is there a nother way to take it or another dose I could take of it. He suggested if this doesn't work I should go up to Sepia 200c and try that. Any suggestions?
