The symptoms you have mentioned are all the ones he has. Also, his face looks pale & he is generally tired, low on energy which is probably due to his sickness. It does not hurt him anymore on swallowing. Ars Alb 200 was given to him previously as mentioned in my earlier post for fever, greenish yellow nasal discharge etc. & it did not help. Like I said the homeopath I had discussed through e-mails gave up the case when Bryonia, Ars Alb, & Sulphur (all in 200C), Kali Sulph 30C, did not help him. He has not tried Rhus or Lachesis. I will discuss the matter with the current homeopath (who has seen my Son) after Christmas & see what he has to say further. He still has fever. Merry Christmas to you & everybody else. Dear Rajan,
Might as well give Lach. a try. By the way, for future reference, no need to start an acute case, like a cold, with a 200C. It's better to start with a 30C. You'd be surprised how often a 30C is sufficient to cure even the worst symptoms. There's a thread on the BB which you've probably seen about a woman with terrible pains in her arms, legs and back which resolved in less than half an hour with one dose Eup-perf. 30C. If you start a case with your highest potency, you have nothing to go up to if the potency wears off. Also, it's possible that the 200 might over-shoot the range that the patient is capable of responding to. How long ago was Ars. tried? A remedy that may not have worked some time ago might work now if the symptoms have changed. Also, when you give a case to a homeopath, just give the acute case; don't include symptoms that are present when the patient is well--such as kicking off the covers at night or anything else that isn't a part of the acute. Always include the modalities--what makes the problem better or worse, and the food desires and aversions and thirst if different from normal. Don't forget to state whether the patient is warm or cold; restless, dull, etc. Perspiration--when and where on body; their reaction to stimuli--light, noise, conversation, touch; the mental/emotionals if they're note-worthy; whether they want warmth or open air, etc. and if there's something note-worthy about their position. If they have pain: what kind of pain and where does it radiate to. Discharges--color and consistency and odor. Take care and good luck, Snoopy |

Dear Snoopy:
Thanks for all your help. I have not given Lach. to my son yet, as he had been seen by this local homeopath who is considered one of the best.... Anyway, his fever & throat is better currently, but heavy greenish-yellow nasal discharge. Earlier, his pediatrician had confirmed that he had Strep Throat. I called the homeopath today & updated the situation. Guess, what I was told by the homeopath..."Give him a course of antibiotics...this is due to the legal practice in US". Is this true? I was trying to avoid antibiotics by giving him homeopathic remedies & to built his immune system rather than suppressing his symptoms. I would like homeopaths working in North America & Europe on their methodologies in similar situations..Is this a normal/common practice as per my experience? I know Asian/Indian homeopaths don't work like this or at least not used to. I am now going to put him on a course of antibiotics as I am currently frustrated with available treatment here using homeopathy & maybe will come back to it after this course of antibiotics is over. I have been a firm believer in homeopathy which is based on my personal experience with homeopaths in India. Thanks for your comments. This will help me analyze the homeopathic system here better... Regards, Rajan |

Dear Rajan,
My daughter had strep throat several months ago. Fortunately our doctor is sympathetic to homeopathy and knows a little about it herself, and upon noticing that my daughter's breath was bad--a keynote of Pyrogen--she gave Pyrogen 30C and my daughter improved almost immediately. A week later we came back and the strep test was negative. So, I guess in conclusion I could say that I wish you were seeing Dr. Karl Robinson; I'd have more faith that the best homeopathic care had been tried. Snoopy |

Dear Rajan,
Since first posting your son's case the following remedies have been suggested and/or tried: Argent nit; Arsen alb; Bryonia; Calc carb; Carcinosin; Eup perf; Kali sulph; Lac can; Lachesis; Nux vom; Phosphorus; Phytolacca; Pulsatilla; Pyrogenium; Rhus tox; Silicea; Strep; Sulphur; Tuberculinum; Variolinum; and Zincum, plus one unidentified complex without lasting success. I believe that where you were let down was in improper case-taking from the start. Using a myriad of incorrect remedies after that point compounds the problem and would have contributed to spoiling the case. It is difficult for any homoeopath to see a clear image of disease when this has occured. But it is not impossible. There are many different approaches to case-taking. As well, the standard of education and accountability in our profession can vary just as broadly, which you have already experienced. The frustration and disappointment you must have felt up to this point with your son's case, is an example to our profession of how much we need to improve ourselves and not blindy repeat the same mistakes over and over again. These do not need to be complicated cases and I'm sure other homoeopaths on this BB will attest to this. I've had many cases of sore throats and earaches where several courses of antibiotics had been given to no avail, and seen them resolve with simple prescriptions such as for example, Pulsatilla, Sulphur or Silicea. Some homeopaths believe it is easier to treat such cases after antibiotic therapy than it is to treat someone whose case has been spoiled and made oversensitive by too many homoeopathic remedies. |

Dear Rajan,
Sabadilla is another remedy that has sore throat that starts on the left, moves to the right and has a lump-like sensation in the throat, which makes the person repeatedly want to swallow. Just another suggestion, if you're still in the market for them. Snoopy |

Dear Snoopy, Chris:
Thanks for your comments. Snoopy, I did not want to write the name of the homeopath here, please see my private e-mail. Chris, I believe what you saying that cases get messed up with too many remedies. In my Son's case, each of these remedies antidoted the previous one, & somehow the case was same as before & the case picture very clear. I did tell the homeopath all the remedies taken, at what stage, & changes if any seen. Anyway, it did not help. He is the best known here/locally. Regards, Rajan |

Dear Rajan,
The difficulty for homoeopaths in taking on mismanaged cases is not only that the patient is fed up with still having the original complaint. It is also that because the Vital Force has been influenced by some 20 to 25 disease energies in the form of homoeopathic remedies, even when you do find a good match, the Vital Force is prone to overreact, or seem to react haphazardly, out of kilter from what you would expect from a well-chosen remedy. Since commencement of homoeopathic treatment has your son's overall state of health become stronger, or weaker? I would be cautious about accepting the view that all previous remedies are automatically antidoted. Or that a remedy which is not the simillimum has no deleterious effect on the organism. |
