Unhappy

Hi All
I have a tortoise which was rescued from a home where it had been neglected. It has suffered a severed leg from a fox attack some time ago. This has been treated by the vet and antibiotics given, but given the slow metabolism of reptiles, it is taking a long time for the stump to heal. Is there anything I can give to her to hasten the healing process.
Thanks

Certainly Sue,

Apply Calendula cream locally everytime you clean the would. Alos you shuld give the tortoise a dose of Arnica 200, as well as Hypericum 200.

You may need to repeat these every alternate day depending on the healing response.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

My dear Anna,

Form my experience I have never found Arnica and Hypericum that was indicated on a stump to EVER harm. In fact it has helped even if there is an infection.(One does have to avoid overdosing too by watching the response).

If there was an infection, I'm sure it would have been obvious and Sue would have mentioned it. Also the vet has alreasy given the tortoise a lot of antibiotics.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

Steady on there, surely at least we need to know what is the problem with the stump, is it infected, does the tortoise show signs of pain, altered behaviour, other symptoms etc.

Repeating Arn and Hyp in 200 could harm the little beast!

Hi All
My tortoise has been treated for infection by the vet. She has had two weeks of baytril injections (SID) As tortoises are very slow to heal, due to their very slow metabolisms I was looking to help her sore looking stump to heal. It is clean, but obviously still very pink looking and does not have scales or claws to help stop contact with the ground. Thanks for your help everyone and I welcome any comments that would help her One of her back legs is still quite swollen, although, no sign of infection. The vet has suggested she has mild arthritis

Question

Dear doctor Leela
What would be the signs of overdosing my tortoise? She does seem to be livelier already

Now you've asked the tough question Sue!!

I would expect any out of the ordinary NEW symptoms would be the first indication. Maybe suddenly seeming less lively for no obvious reason.

I think if you keep in touch regularly about the improvement and what are the developments, I would be able to advise you whether to repeat or not. Its always easier that way!

Warm regards,
doctorleela

Hello again doctorleela
My tortoise has eaten voluntarily today for the first time in the month that I have had her with me This is brilliant news. The stump does look less angry and I shall continue with the calendula cream until she can use it easily.
Many thanks
