Hi- believe it or not I am 31 1/2 weeks along and Joshua (yep, it's a BOY!) is doing fine. We have known for a few weeks that he has been breech but today at my checkup my doctor(GP) showed concern and is going to contact the ob/gyn tomorrow- with plans of sending me down to see him to get him to turn the baby. I don't at all like the thought of this- nor do I AT ALL want a c-section. Isn't there still time for him to turn on his own? When should I be concerned and what other options are there to simplify things and hopefully get him to turn?? Thanks, Jen

Hi Jen,

Puls is usually used for this, please read the topic from May "Fetus in Abnormal Position" which I have brought to the current board. Hope all goes well with getting him turned!

Hi Jen,
Wow, it's hard to believe this many weeks have passed!! How time flies, hey.

With my son - the last baby - he was also in breech position - starting around the 32nd week and up until 37 weeks! At the 37th week - when he was still in breech, I was given some literature to read on two things:

-Breech delivery (which I admit scared me!)
and,
-Turning the baby by manipluating him through my tummy. I was told that this is quite uncomfortable and carries some risks with it - so this scared me too but in a different way.

I recall feeling very upset - and almost trapped. I also remember talking to my 'tummy' and begging him to 'get into position'! (In my mind, he should've been engaged by then!!!!)

So, the 'norm' of babies engaging into position those last few weeks - is NOT always a guaranteed event for every woman/baby!

What happened?

Well, as I said - I was 37 weeks along. And they told me to come in for a scan a only 3 days later (just after my obgyn visit where I was told he was still breech and given all that literature to prepare me).

After the scan, I was told the baby was too big to turn - and I think there was some concern over his posistion or the position of the cord in relation to the baby. Anyhow, they said turning him would be a bit risky at that point and it was no longer an option - so I had better be prepared for a Breech Delivery .

My options at that point?
Breech or C-section. And, they said the C-section would only be a last resort! (I admit, I was leaning toward C-section at that point, worried to death the baby would have problems since he was so big!!)

Like you I was NOT the least bit thrilled about EITHER prospect.

I hadn't 'found' Homeopathy by then - but it all ended very well .

My wee boy was 37 weeks and a few days along, remember. So, I had approximately 3 weeks to go before he was due to deliver.

Just before my 38th week(ly) appointment (i.e. a couple of days after the scan) - I woke up one morning thinking I had lost control of my bladder - and lo and behold, I was simply in labour.

We were very concerned since it had only been a couple of days since the scan (remember, he was breech during that scan...and I saw him!). So, we rang the doc and said what was going on - were told to come in....

When I got there, they palpated my tummy and he was not breech anymore.

So, he was 2 weeks early (thank God, though, because he was huge! Another 2 weeks - we're talking at least a 5kg baby at that point!!) - born completely naturally and normally (head first, face down).

So, I just want to say, please don't worry too much. And, you have the amazing help of homeopathy to help prepare you and the baby.

I would think it is best not to jump at Puls - until you list how you are feeling, etc - just so everyone can make sure it is indeed Puls that is truly indicated .

So, how are you feeling? Give some details so someone can prescribe for you more accurately .

As an aside, I have to ask about Bre - how's my girl doing?

Take care and try not to worry, okay.

With lots of love and warm wishes,
Lisa

Moxa bustion is very sucseful in turning breach babys with the ideal time being around 34 weeks. This is were a acupuncturist uses a herbal stick that is heated to stimulate an acupuncture point on the out side of the little toe. This is repeated for several days until the baby turns.
Homiopathicly Pulsitilla is used for mal position of baby.

Hi- thanks everyone for your responses. I too thought that it was much too early to worry about but the GP seemed to be in such a fluster about it. Now that I know more I will be armed with info when they do make some decisions- which is what I wanted- I wanted to know my options and to be educated about it before they were pressuring me into something. Thanks again - you guys are the best and I will talk to you about it again in a few weeks. And as for Bre- well I will post a new thread about her soon- thanks for asking. Have a wonderful day!

Pulsatilla 200 is the correct remedy to use but in my opinion it is far too early to start worrying about that or thinking of taking that remedy. Let's talk about it about when the baby is 38 weeks!! If he is turned manually now he will probably turn himself back again anyway!!
All the best for the rest of the prognancy.

Hello!

My little one was breech at about the same time, and the thing that worked for me was the yoga position for turning the baby. Against the wall, or against the couch, lay on the floor, position some pillows under your hips and have your feet up, either on the wall or on the couch. You are supposed to be at an angle. With head lowest, then hips then legs and feet. Imagine what you would look like if you put an ironing board leaning against the couch, with one tip on the floor and the other in the air. That is the angle you want to achieve. I did this for 20 mins in the morning and 20 mins in the evening. And low and behold the baby turned! You could also do the position on your hands and knees. Head down and bottom in the air. ) Whatever is most comfortable for you. And talk to the baby, visualize the position you want it to be in. I told the baby to put its head down, and tuck its chin to its chest. Maybe this, plus homeopathy will help you!! It will all turn out right in the end. )

Hi Jen,
Here is what Native people do to encourage the baby to turn. Usually the mother sleeps on one side, a favorite side. This position is what the baby is used to. Change your sleeping position from your favorite side to the opposite side and the baby will try to get back on his used side and actually turn. It may still be a bit early for that, you're not too far along for a natural turning anyways. Just try it, if it works great, if not, there are all the other suggestions. I'm wishing you good luck and all the best for your delivery. It certainly helps to talk to the baby - they hear !
