Hi All

My wife is having fever 100 deg.F. She has scratchy throat, stuffiness/congestion in head & chest. Pain in forehead. Slight cold feeling but no chills. Doesn't need to be covered. Body heaviness with the feeling that the whole body is going to start aching. Pain in chest on breathing.

Feels like resting quietly. Thirst reduced. Feels like drinking something warm.

Kids are sick in the family & kind of bug going around here. Weather changes going on here, sometimes warm & sometimes cold.

Would Puls 200C single dose be applicable here or would you suggest something else? Please advise.

Thanks
Rajan

You may be better with Gelsenium 30 repeated 3 times a day. This sounds like a flu. If no improvement it will be the wrong remedy. Only use Puls. 200 if it is her constitutional remedy and she is very weepy.

Thanks Ricky:

Just wanted further clarification. Does a patient need to be droopy / sleepy type for Gels or doesn't necessary need to have that symptom. I do have Gels 30C handy.

Thanks
Rajan

Hi,

Here's what I recently found in a book by Indian homeopath Mohinder Singh Jus, practicing in Switzerland (I'm summarizing):

Puls. at the beginning of a cold, before the discharge sets in, is a wrong prescription. It could suppress the discharge and make things worse. Should only be given once everything flows (other symptoms agreeing).
He says further, if in doubt, at the beginning of a flu/cold, give Nux vomica because of its wide spectrum of flu and cold symptoms. Apparently for him it clears the case.

I have not enough experience to comment on this. Anybody else?

Always learning,
Karin

Hi,

I just recently got over similar symptoms that your wife is experiencing. Gelsemium seemed to fit the symptoms, however, I, personally, needed this remedy in a 1M potency. It certainly helped me. If you have it in the 1M, I would try it because 30c probably is too low.

Rajan,

Like Ricky, I too thought of Gels. And she's right, if your wife is weepy, clingy and pathetic, think of Puls. A 30C potency may be too low, but perhaps repeating it 3 to 4 times a day will compensate for that. Save your higher potencies in the event the lower ones stop working, then you have something to go up to. If the 1M stops working and that was your highest potency, then you have no where to go, you've shot all your ammunition at once.

Keep in touch,
Snoopy

My patients all respond well to 30C potency. I would only give a 1M in a constitutional gelsenium where the mental and emotional symptoms fit. here we are talking about an acute complaint!!

Hi All (Ricky, Snoopy, Karin..)

Thanks for the help.

Update:
I gave my wife Gels 30C twice yesterday & her fever came down to 99.3deg F.

Her sore throat is better i.e. no more sore throat, but she is still really congested. Says that she feels everything in her head & chest is stuffed/congested badly & her eyes are burning too. Energy level about the same.

She is contniuing her Gels this morning. Don't know if it will also help her in her congestion. Apparently this head congestion used to be her old problem which had become better but has just resurfaced & increased/aggravated during this flu problem.

Any further advise is appreciated.

Thanks
Rajan

An old problem resurfacing usually points to the need for a remedy that suits the whole person, not just the acute. Often times the chronic state becomes aggravated during an acute, which shows it is actually the chronic state rather than an acute.

What David is saying is that now the acute stage of the fever has gone she needs to see a professional classical homeopath who will takea full case hostory and prescribe a remedy for her as an individual rather than a symptom.
