My 5 year old developed a cough over a week ago (neighbors had it too) it wasn't bad - worse at night. Thislasted a week and then Thursday night she got a headache and a 102F fever, lethargic, vomited once and was coughing a lot. She was a little better yesterday and today but the cough is still very bad, very frequent- she does still have a low fever (about 99-100F). Her spirits are up and she is playing okay - a little more tired than normal but she isn't slepping well due to the coughing. It seems that the cough is no longer worse at night just bad all the time. It is not productive - nothing is coming up but it does sound a little like there is some phlegm stuck in her throat - lungs are clear. She did say that "goobies are coming in her mouth from her nose" I take it mean that there is some postnasal drip irritating her throat. COld or warm drinks don't change it - nor does cold or warm air. She does prefer blankets on with her fever. She has asked for milk and ice cream today ( I didn't give her any). ANy advice??? Poor kid can't sleep (as you know - neither can mom when she is up)

Dear Barbi,

From the info you've given, you daughter could use either Bryonia or Phoshorous.
Maybe if you read them up, you would be able to differentalte the two. A couple of doses in 30C should be enough.

If you described the cough a bit more, I could be more specific. Also the gen weather conditions etc.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

It is hard to describe the cough - it is not barking or racking just pretty much a constant cough that is not very wet nor dry It sounds as if she could just cough hard enough she'd be able to get something to come out but she doesn't cough hard enough - worse when lying down. SHe has been chilly today which is unlike her.

I don't think this is related but I did notice that one of her front adult upper teeth is coming in - the gum area is slighly red and inflammed - it is not bothering her.

apparently she asked my hubby for ice cream a couple of times today too.

It is pretty cold here today and yesterday - actually the weather went from being very very nice earlier in the week to fairly cold outside.

thanks

Barb,

Not much better for me, sorry!

But if she's chilly, I'd go for Phos 200 first. Just in case it doesn't work, give her Ars 200 after a day.

Warm regards,
Leela

Thumbs down

cough is still pretty bad - constant. Not more than five or ten minutes go by without her coughing. It is a dry cough - non productive. Rachel is getting sad about it- not playing much, just lying and watching tv. Said yesterday that her chest hurt from coughing. Again I don't notice any difference from warm or cold. Lying on her back seems to make it worse but it is sooo bad to begin with that that isn't saying much. it seems to calm down a little once she falls asleep, but then coems back after a bit. I tried 3 doses of phos 30c and nothing-2 doses of bry and nothing. I didn't try ant - tart because it is a dry cough, do you still think Ishould try that??? I think I only have that in a 200c.
Thanks

Barb,

Antim Tart is a good remedy for Cough after influenza. I did not suggest it as the cough was dry adn she was chilly.

My other suggestions are Belladonna and Aralia Racemosa. Please read it up from Boericke with the thirst and modalities and decide.
Best of luck.
Warmly,
Doctorleela

Barb - this sounds like the flu I'm having...it started with a dry NON-productive cough. Was prescribed Sulph 200c and it worked a charm (within an hour) - I was coughing ever so productively. This flu is nasty. It has lingered for a week now, but I know that others who haven't had treatment (homeopathically like me) have been much worse than me - and they've been sick for weeks now.

Could it be sulph? It IS one of the GE for the flu going round the world at the moment, accoring to my homeopath. Thought this might help...see what the others say...

I'm off on my trip now...hope she feels better soon .

Barb,
If u r skeptical abt Ant then u can try Wyethia or Hyos (if its worse at night and coming in paroxysms, then try Hyos first)
