Hello, i am new here. I recently purchased a weight loss aid called Puralin at a local health food store. I have never heard of it before and was wondering if anyone knows how effective it may be. I am 35 years-old and have three children. I do not get as much excersise as I should and consequently have put on 38 pounds this past year. I think that I could graze all day if I let myself. I desperatly need to find something that will help control my cravings. The product that I just picked up, Puralin, contains Calcarea carbonica, Carbo vegetabillis, Fucus vesiculosus, Graphites, Kali caronicum, Lycopodium clavatum, Sepia officinalis, and Thuja occidentalis. I have no idea what any of these ingredients are and am interested in finding out how they may assist in weight loss/appetite control. Also, if there are any other products that are tried and true, please let me know. I currently am taking L-Carnatine, Evening Primrose, Folic Acid, as well as using a Natural Progesterone cream.
Thanks, Dawn |

Not a homeopathic remedy, but it worked. I put on Kilo's+++ after 2nd child, and eventually Weight watchers was what took it off. With regular walking, I have now been at goal weight for 5 years. Takes some time to re-learn eating habits, but the whole family has benefited. (the only problem I had was with the meat eating but I substituted tofu & legumes successfully)

A similar formula to the one mbone purchased is sold through the banner ads at this BB!
It flashes up homeopathic remedies and then you get all sorts of formulas claiming to help lose weight, boost the immune system, etc. They are quite expensive, too. So much for not over-medicating your clients and confusing their cases!! [ 19 August 2001: Message edited by: Simone ]

Dear mbone,
Please read " Please help me, I am obese and have too much hair Pages: 1 2 3 Bettina " on this BB to get an idea of how to overcome a weight problem with homeopathic care. Each person is treated totally individually according to their own unique symptoms after a history has been taken. This way the cause of the weight gain will be treated. There will not be a rebound of weight gain latter, either. Please do not use the formulae you have. It will complicate you health condition. |

Mbone, I also think the thread "Please help...I am obese and have too much hair"...is an excellent place to start for some tips and guidelines, as well as some good sources of diet information.
The thread's creator has outlined a problem that all people who face weight loss need to address--and that is finding supportive environments in which to accomplish their goals. In our society, "overweight" people are among the most reviled. They live in an environment which blames them for all their health problems, simplifies their situation to one where they merely "have no self-control or shame", and are punished severely for being different from what is considered the norm of beauty or health. The punishment comes in many, many forms: from not being able to find clothes that fit properly, to constantly being told that they are disgusting or completely valueless as individuals, to being less likely to find they will be hired for available work--or, if they are, never judged on their merits for their contributions, and never rewarded for the work they do (heavens, no! promoting a fat person "makes the company look bad" by association! There are always discrimination cases like this in courts all over North America). People scrutinize every morsel of food a nearby "fat" person ingests, and often openly stare if they see a fat person eating a desert at a restaurant. Its no surprise the overweight are often made to feel unworthy as a result of this treatment--and no surprise many suffer depression from their state as well. Corporations selling "thinness" have capitalized on this--and there are many of them, so I won't name them here; but you know of them--they are the companies which promote fantastically rapid weight loss if only you eat their packaged foods, pay them loads of cash up front, and stay on their low calorie plans until you're thin. For their fee, you can actually have their support as you continue to rely on their foods and their staff for morale boosting. These companies are terrifically successful not because of their diet plans (which are often unsound), but because most overweight people who've been overweight for their entire lives have never found the kind of cheerleading morale support they pay for in these institutions. When they are being told for the first time that they're successful, that they're progressing very well, and that they are worthy of attention and rewards--well, that's addictive. So, the real trick is to find people in your life who will give you morale support and encouragement so that you have a rock solid foundation beneath your efforts to meet your own goals. Weight Watchers is actually an excellent suggestion, as they've been organized to focus on helping people find and develop this network and foundation--not just for meeting their weight goals, but all their goals in life (remember, when you've spent a long time cutting yourself down and not believing in yourself, you really need to learn how not to do this, as well as how to keep yourself focused on your planned accomplishments). Weight watchers takes a small fee from their adherents every week or so; and they provide a guideline and access to nutritionists so that you can structure your own diet according to your own requirements. Then their work with you continues after you've reached your desire weight--so you can always access them whenever you need to. I believe they have a "lifetime" member program which allows you free access to WW as long as you've stayed within a certain range of your goal weight for a specified period of time. In the meantime, you've relearned how to view the whole situation--and learned how to find and maintain this kind of positive support from people in your life, not just those you meet through your weight loss program. It sounds like a good way to do this--so when you're out looking for some company to help you lose weight, try to find one that's structured in this way. It may take a while to lose your weight, but the long term vision of teaching yourself how to manage this aspect of your life (and by extension, all the other aspects too) is a pretty good one. You definitely can't get that out of any box or prescription drug or plain old diet program...but I suspect that it is the only thing which will make weight loss permanent for anyone. Team that up with homeopathic treatment that is individualised for you, and you can't go wrong. Divina

Thanks for all of the input! I have yo yoed for the past 15 years and have struggled with bulemia and anorexia. I know that the answer is not in a pill, rather, it is a lifestyle. My biggest struggle is with continuous hunger. I will read the posting that you referrd to. Also, Carolorr, interesting comment. I do not typically remember my dreams, however, since I started using this diet aid I have had some rather vivid and interesting dreams...could there be a connection?

So, what, after all the advice against using such an untried, dangerous combination, you're STILL TAKING IT?
Here's some news for you: Calcarea carbonica, one of the remedies in the "mix" of your polypharmacy concoction, CAUSES WEIGHT GAIN in those for whom the drug is not a similimum. I always have to wonder how they choose the drugs they'll include in this combos--why not throw EVERY remedy in? After all...by polypharmacy's logic, combining all 3000+ remedies should be able to cure anything! Divina
