Question

For those long-standing board members, my case will sound familiar. I have been writing about my son, on and off, for years. Meanwhile, he does see a homeopath. He has been given a variety of remedies over the years, for symptoms due to ADHD. These include: arsencium iod., tar. hisp., lachesis, nux. vom., anac., stram., sulphur, lyc., apis and most recently (6/29/01) 200c hyos. Some remedies helped with some issues, others had no discernable effect. The most profound changes happened with nux., but they never lasted, despite going up in potencies to 200c. He has a tendency to aggravate, so I was relunctant to go higher. This last dosing with hyos. has been most interesting. That's what I would appreciate your opinions on. Here has been the course: aggravations week 1; better next week. Week 3 found him calmer, with occasional outbursts in behavior, and some old symptoms of using "lewd" language (for an 8yo). He gradually began to exhibit symptoms that he had shown before, almost in layers. Some would appear, then leave to be replaced by others, and yes they were in a sense, reversed of how they were noted in his development. Even the fear he showed which first led us to ars. So, now its as is he is back to baseline. Is this good? Some days I wonder. Will he eventually even out? Is the number of remedies he has been given unusual? I honestly felt at times the homeo. was using best guess tactics. His last rep. showed nux., phos., and zinc m/cham., in that order. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -K

In reading your post, something struck me as odd, given my Kentian background. It's not directly related to your question, however.

You said Nux helped, but didn't hold, even though you had gone up to a 200C. The higher potencies actually have less of an aggravation. For a child with emotional problems, I consider a 200C a fairly low potency and would probably start at a much higher potency than that and go up from there. One old time (and quite famous) Kentian told me the story of one of his patients, a mentally disturbed teen ager. He needed a daily 10M dose of a nosode. He had been on this regimen for several years and as long as he took it daily, he functioned completely normally, but if he missed a day, he would hallucinate and experience other very disturbing symptoms. This extememly high, and to most minds, much too frequent dosing was the only thing keeping him out of a psychiatric ward.

Your son, of course, is a long way from being that mentally disturbed, but if I were the treating homeopath, if he had a good, albeit short, response from a remedy in a medium potency, I would have kept going up in potency as long as the symptoms hadn't significantly changed.

As to your question, I hesitate to answer, since I haven't been following the case.

Dear Karen,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did you say your son took hyos. and has had a profound response, including return of old symptoms which stayed for awhile and left and his old symptoms returned in reverse order as per Hering's Law Of Cure? So, is he better now?

Thanks for your replies. Neither homeopath. my son saw chose to increase the potency of nux., so I didn't pursue it myself. Chickened out, I guess. And, yes, he has experienced a myriad of old behavioral/emotional symptoms since the hyos. He is currently back to the silliness, being afraid, nobody loves him, terrible behavior control, etc. that drove me to homeopathy in the first place. Ars. did wonders for the fear and love issues, but didn't change behavior control much. Hence the trial of tar. hisp., which was riddled with aggravations and temporary change. And so on and so on. His behavior is totally ruling our family and quite frankly, we've had it! Just a little venting...but this is the second "wave" of returning behavior that I'm afraid he'll get "stuck" in. How long should I wait for him to even out, to see what he is like now? I was thinking 2 weeks, at least. Any thoughts? -K

Dear Karen,

Inappropriate and excessive silliness is usually what one chooses Hyos. for, but in this case, it seems you're saying it's not doing anything for his silliness, but apparently it has been effective in other ways. How has it helped?

Actually, people write in all the time who have a limited question about their case, like you, but invariably, we find it hard to answer their question without having the same information that the local homeopath is privy to. I really feel at a loss here, as I don't know what led to this prescription and I don't know the progression of the case or the presenting symptoms on the first visit to the homeopath, the reaction to the remedies--whether he proved them, whether they disrupted the case....I guess I'm having a hard time visualizing the situation as a whole.

Maybe someone else will be better able to answer your question based on the information given.

Dear Karen,

I reread your post and I think the answer to your question (How long do I have to wait for the silliness to stop?) would be, how long did you wait for the other "return of old symptoms" to disappear? That would be a good guide-line. Also, I noticed you said the homeopath had done a new repertorization, is that for the next remedy?
Cuz I don't know how he would know at this juncture what the next remedy should be if he's going to give Hyos. its rightful opportunity to cure.

My mistake, the dose was 1M hyos. Probably doesn't change anything. Last does of 200c apis (the second dose, first given in January)was in April. There wasn't really a lasting change, some things better, some not. But, its tough when dealing with a child who also changes based on development. The homeopath said that if the apis didn't really do much, she would move on to hyos. The rep. referred to was done before giving the hyos. Hyos. covered many issues, but not the anger, criticalness of him. That rep. showed nux., phos., zinc m/cham. as best choices, but I stuck with the homeopath's opinion. Hyos. did show up, but not as strongly as the others, 4th in choice, as did bell. and verat. a. I reported what I have observed since. Today finds him doing EXACTLY what I have just told him not to, no matter how trivial or dangerous. Something I've gone through with him in the past as well, when he was 5-6 years old. He's now 8 1/2. He was on tar. hisp. at that time. In researching more, I believe that I should wait longer. I will also wait until I see the same symptom picture for at least one week, I just hope my family can hold on that long, and him as well. -K

Karen Karen Karen,

If you are from Connecticut, you are right near Paul Herscu, the Guru of Homeopathy and Children's Problems! You MUST see him, it makes no sense to see anyone else! He puts out the New England Journal of Homeopathy and runs the New England School of Homeopathy. It should be fairly easy to find him. I have the number of the New England School of Homeopathy: 413-256-5949.
He's probably got a web site too.

Anyway, that's what I'd do.

Dear Snoopy,
Yes, he does have a web site. Thanks for the reference. I'd like to solicit other BB members familiarily with the school. It sounded interesting, and workable, to me. By the way, my "old" homeopath. recommended waiting at least one more week to evaluate my son. Let's hope for the best. Today actually was a relatively better day in his life. I'll take it! -K

Dear Karens, would it not be proper to see, what external, or internal intoxication causes your sons problems?
In your previous posts about a year or two ago, you said that there was a greate deal of good reaction to the Nux-v you gave your son. It is worthwile for you to ceck out what could be the reason for your sons problem.
According to Vermeullen the causations for the need of Nux-v. are
1.Anger
2. Coffee
3. Alcohol
4. Debachery
5. Masturbation
6.Sexual excess
7. Injury
8.Loss of sleep.
9. Sedentary habits.
I do also remeber GM saying that a fugus infection can cause alcohol levels to go up.
I remeber that you reported a striking amazing progress with Nux-v. Please se if any of the above may be the causation to you sons behaviour.
