Hello all, I can't reach my homeopath, so I hope you can help. I have had a high fever (103 F - or 39.5 for you Celsius types) for 3 days now. It began on Thursday morning when I woke up feeling very tired with aches and pains all over, even though I had slept well. During the course of the day I began to feel very cold even though my officemate said it was warm. I could tell my cheeks were hot. I felt light-headed upon standing up and had to walk very slowly. Yesterday I stayed home. I felt that I had to stay under lots of covers. My skin was dry and I did not sweat at all. I wasn't very hungry or thirsty. I drank a small glass of water periodically throughout the day, but it didn't seem to reach my skin -- I just had to pee a lot. My eyes hurt a lot, as did the rest of my head, and I was sensitive to light. Any movement makes my head feel bad. My feet were ice cold. Based on this, my homeopath recommended that I take Belladonna, which I did. I felt some relief, but my fever remained high.
When my husband got home and saw how high my fever was, he called his sister, who is a nurse, and based on her recommendation gave me some Tylenol and put cold cloths on my wrists. I was very weepy and whiny, which is odd for me. My temperature went down and I became drenched in sweat. Since then I have been following this pattern: Tylenol or Advil, temporary improvement and sweating, back to high fever and dry skin. I woke up at 3 this morning with my fever back to 103. I checked my heart rate and it was 108. I vomited all of a sudden while sitting on the toilet. After 15 minutes, I took some Belladonna, which allowed me to go back to sleep. When I woke up at 7, my temp was back up. And so on. Aside from the fever, the headache, and last night's vomiting, I haven't had any other symptoms. I hate taking all this OTC stuff, but to be honest I am a little scared. Should I continue taking Belladonna, or try something else? Oh, one other thing that is probably a coincidence -- at the same time that my fever was developing on Thursday, I noticed a strange bug bite on my foot that was unusually reddish and eventually developed a pimple-like shape. Right now I feel like I might have to vomit again. |

I might be inclined to try Gels for the fever, lack of appetite and thirst, slow movement, faintness feeling, absent perspiration, eye pain.
Some others to consider would be Puls, Ars and Bry and I may even consider apis if the bug bite is indeed related. How does that look today? Wait for one of the experts to respond though as I am just a student. [ 14 July 2001: Message edited by: Barb ]

Thanks, Ricky and Barb. The thing is, I have a call in to my homeopath but I don't know that she checks that number very often over the weekend. The Gels idea is interesting, since I don't think my homeopath was aware of the lightheadness, slow movement or lack of hunger/thirst. I don't know that the Belladonna really is helping much, although maybe it would if I took it more often. The bug bite at this point is sort of an oval-shaped pimple with a bright reddish area around it, not very big. It doesn't particularly itch or hurt.

I just want to mention this for everyone to consider..not in reference to you, CRA...Two people here in minneapolis..who are friends were together in someone's back yard having a picnic. Lots of mosquitoes there. Both came down with spinal or is it viral menningitus at the same time..The doctors at the hospital suggested that the mosquitoes might have carried something.

Ugh... scary. The back of my neck does feel stiff and sore, and my sister-in-law did have me touch my chin to my chest to check for meningitis. But since I was able to do this without excruciating pain, she said it wasn't the case.

Hi all, I only had Belladonna on hand last night, so that's what I took. Hard to say whether it helped -- it may have made my headache better but my fever is still here.
I also took a round of Tylenol/Advil because, to be honest, I was sick of feeling bad. Well, this was a mistake. I woke up this morning drenched in sweat, but since my fever was back I was also freezing. I shivered so much when I got out of the covers to get some water that I ended up having to vomit even though there was nothing in my stomach but some nasty bitter medicine sludge. Does it make a difference if my vomit is yellowish-greenish? I suppose my case, such as it is, is all messed up because of the mix of OTC and homeopathic remedies, and I am sorry about that. As soon as my husband wakes up I will ask him to march off to the store and get 2 or 3 remedies to try. Right now I probably have Puls and Gels on my list - any other ideas? It probably wouldn't hurt to have some backup names, since this is not the best-stocked store. As far as I'm concerned at this point the more the merrier. I just want to kill this thing off.
