Hi all,
I would love some assistance for my sick baby. She is now 11 months old and has had a runny nose for 3 weeks straight. (I suspect dairy allergy and will go off that for a while to see). This is not the main complaint though. 3 days ago, she developed thrush in her mouth with white spots on her tongue, throat and corners of her mouth. I do still nurse and she passed it onto me also. However, the complaint that worries me most is her right breast which has around the areola a red spot and underneath the skin a small lump. The pediatrician diagnosed it as a small infection which could lead to an abscess if not treated. She told me not to worry about the lump. She prescribed a course of antibiotics which I will not give before I have tried a remedy first. The red spot looks a little like a bee sting, but there is no sign of a sting in the centre of it. It is on the right breast and the skin is only mildly warmer than her normal skin and about the size of a quarter (1,5 cm diametre). There is no fever. She seems to be her normal self, perhaps a little more demanding than usual, complaining when she doesn't get her way. She sleeps reasonably well, eats well and nurses fine. It seems that the complaints bother me more than her. I am willing to let the runny nose run its course, but the breast infection worries me somewhat. I'd appreciate your help and of course I'm hitting the books too. [ 05 July 2001: Message edited by: ClaudiaRosemarin ] |

Hi.
This is not enough to go on. Please go to your local Homoeopath if possible, otherwise post a full case on this BB.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. This is why it is harder for babies than for bigger kids. This is all I got, oberserved symptoms only. I have no way of knowing if the infection burns. It seems not to itch, as she is ignoring it. I am in contact with the pediatrician and also a local homeopath. However, I would have loved more ideas to go further by myself (I am a serious student of homeopathy) |

The thrush may be treated later with a constitutional, but for now I would treat the infection that is of concern.

Hi all, thanks to each for your input. I was lucky, m y baby started to display very clear Chamomilla behaviour, wanting to be carried all the time, being very irritable when put down and crying angrily. She was very fussy yesterday outside in the wind and calmed down inside.
Also, Murphy's MM lists under Breasts in Chamomilla "Infant's breast tender" - so I gave her Chamomilla 200 C and the infection is going down, only slightly pink, not as angry looking as before and less big. I will have to see if the thrush and the runny nose are also affected by the remedy and will go away in reverse order of appearance. I wonder if Chamomilla is her constitutional remedy for now ? any thoughts on that ? I have learned, that words only in case of a "paper case" can lead in all sorts of valuable directions. It takes the practitioner/patient contact to know for sure. (at least with a baby). I did appreciate the various responses and found them valuable learning experiences - thanks. |

Claudia,
I really don't think your baby is a constitutional cham. This is a very common remedy in baby complaints--also puls. Any time you see the mental/emotionals of these 2 in an infant case, regardless of the illness, you can give it. Snoopy |
