My daughter has a HUGE< GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS fear of the dentist. In fact I have held off a very long time bringing her in to have some cavaties filled because it is just too traumatic. She doesn't scream or yell or kick or anything like that she just gets very very sad and sobs (fairly quiety), begging if she can be done. She allows the dentist to do what needs to be done but is just so sad, the best way to describe it is that she looks like she is totally being violated. We are not even allowed to say "dentist" around her. After her last visit she said she wished she were dead cause there are no dentists in heaven.
Would like to give her something this evening - the dentist wants me to give her a vallium tomorrow "to take the edge off".

I am thinking Calc carb or gels tonight - and bringing acon to the appt. - but acon seems so much more "active" or aggressive or hyper, do you think this would be appropriate?

Hi Barb....I remember the dental visits your little girl had some time ago! What a mind she has! No dentists in Heaven! Can't say I disagree with her on that!

Not homeopathy but might want to consider Rescue Remedy. It is easily available at most health food stores when single FE's may be harder to find. She wouldn't even have to know you were giving her anything (pills to go to the dentist) because you could just put it in a water bottle and each sip reinforces the affect. While she is in the dentist chair, you can even rub little drops onto her wrists or fingers.

I have used it and other FE's often but was really amazed a few months ago when I had a cat who was in such stress trying to breathe. (His lungs were full and he simply couldn't get enough air.) I rubbed drops onto his ear with each anguished attack throughout the night. I was suffering all that people do when they are witnessing this type of thing. After a few hours of repeatedly using the RR on him, I realized how calm and accepting of the outcome I had become. So.....RR might be a good idea for you, too! Just a thought.

(We both, the kitty and I, survived the night!)

Thanks gpm! I hope you and your kitty friends (and squirrel friends and all the little woodland creatures) are doing well. I have given RR in the past for her but it didn't seem to help. It was a pretty old bottle, I wonder if it went "bad"?

I think if there were some way to find out what it is about DENTIST that is so disturbing to your daughter, that would go a long way toward figuring out what to do about it.

When I was a child, I was terrified of dentists and would bite them whenever they tried to work on me. In addition to the pain, I was most terrified that the drill would get my tongue! I was very afraid until one of the dentists let me hold a mirror and watch what he was doing. He also told me he would stop the second I raised my hand. I tested him a few times and he stopped, so I began to relax a bit. I was able to always keep my tongue far away from where he was working. I used the same dentist and the mirror until I was in my twenties and had to move to another city. It took quite some time before I was able to relax without watching what was happening inside my mouth. Well, I'm not completely relaxed, even when it's only a tooth cleaning, but I'm not terrified, either. I still wish I could watch, though.

Also, depending on her age, maybe some books about trips to the dentist might help.

I was at a student clinic once with a very experienced homeopath who prescribed Gels. for a patient whose fear was so great she thought she was going to die. When I asked why that and not Arg Nit which was my first thoughts I was told that the Gels Fear is so bad that they do think they are going to die.

Thanks for your comments, Barb. The only thing I know about RR is that it can be used every five minutes, if needed. Your vial shouldn't have gone bad. Maybe Ricky's idea is better.....think I've heard that before.

Good luck with the very smart little girl and her dentist visit!

Dear Barb,

My daughter, Shana, insists that she has something important to say on this topic! So here she is now:

Well everytime the denist isists on me having an appt., I pull Snoopy into the examing room and hold her hand and sometimes cry when something gets to scary, something that my teeth will not appreciate. it makes me going to the denist.

Shana

Barb....our children's dentist has a way of setting up the chair so the child actually sits on her mother's (or father's) lap. Parent sits, child stradles facing parent, then child leans back into proper position for dentist to work while parent is in full view of child and holding them for comfort. A bit like Snoopy's adorable sounding daughter being comforted by holder her mother's hand. In the next world, lets hope no dentists are required....all born with permanent, impervious, perfect teeth!

Dear Barb,

Shirley had some good ideas! Just knowing you have control would tend to make one feel less violated. I agree with Rescue Remedy too. Your description makes me think of Pulsatilla: the pathetic quality, the crying....When my daughter goes, I still have to hold her hand.
