I would like to know what others think of Lycopodium for this case.

Lycopodium doesn't have the feeling of being talked about and laughed at. They are sensitive to what others think, definitely, but not so paranoid. I was kind of thinking along different lines....

Suspicious, that people are talking about her - bar-c, hyos, ign, pall, staph

Delusion she is laughed at or mocked -
aq-mar, bar-c, germ, ign, lach, nux-v, ph-ac, psor, sep

But what is the real problem here. It has to do with social interaction. She feels she is deficient in social skills. This is the sphere governed by the Silicium series. Her complaints are aggravated in COMPANY, she is better when no-one is TALKING, she worries what OTHER PEOPLE are thinking about her, she fears being REJECTED by them. She is ok when doing her tasks, but when it comes her SOCIAL SKILLS her confidence falls dramatically.

But which one of the Siliciums?

There is a feeling of being ALONE, of being VUNERABLE, a fear of being HURT, of being LEFT OUT, she WITHDRAWS from social situations, prefers SILENCE. She cannot TALK ABOUT HER PROBLEMS, she keeps them to herself. These are all features of Natrum.

Other elements in the case are SHYNESS, TIMIDITY, HARD WORKER, issues around her FATHER, NEGLECT IN CHILDHOOD, ABUSE, BEING BEATEN, EMOTIONAL VIOLENCE - these things point to the Carbon series, specifically to Carbon (Graphites) itself.

This leads to Nat-carb.

Feel they are being slighted by others
Feel others thinks they are worthless
Feel denies by society
Feeling of being an outcast
Great fear of people, tries to avoid contact
Always on the receiving end of abuse
Offended easily
Feels that society has ganged up on her
She is made to feel abnormal and not part of the group.
Severe inferiority complex in the sphere of forming relationships
Disturbed relationship with one parent
Strong feeling of being forsaken or neglected

Nat-carb is afraid of the human quality of forming a group and casting people out if they don't fit the expected norms of the group. This also seems to me to be the centre of this case. That's my idea, anyway.

Hi David - good things to think about (what you wrote ).

What about Pulsatilla? The vulnerability seems to be the core - no? Just wondering about this - or had you ruled that out already? (just curious ).

Dear Lisa,

I did consider Puls, but I felt that the poor social skills didn't fit into this remedy. However, Nat-c and Puls can look ALOT alike, and may even act as complementaries to each other. Having said that, I think the Lyc and Nat-c can resemble each other too, and I have confused them in the past. They both have fear of failure and digestive complaints with lots of bloating.

Thanks David ,

Much appreciate your answering my query. Got me thinking!!

I wonder if it is really poor social skills - or just being afraid because of the vulnerability - hence, the fear renders HI incapable of coping, socially, they way he'd like too? Just a thought . Like to hear more from you, if you don't mind.

Lisa

What I try to go on are the exact words of the patient. If they say they feel they have poor social skills, then I take that at face value. I think the vunerability is more of an assumption based on what she has said, but this is still adequately covered by all the Natrum remedies.

And the reaction to their vunerability is important too, with Puls it is flirting, affection, need to be protected, giving love, crying, wanting sympathy.

With the Natrum they get hurt, go silent, won't talk, withdraw, feel rejected(shared with Puls).

Other remedies react differently - Anacardium curse and swears, tries to prove themselves, becomes unfeeling, gets indecisive. Lycopodium becomes a braggart, boasts, puts on a show, becomes a dictator, name drops, looks tough while feeling weak. And so on.

To answer your question, I think it is both things.

Thanks Dr. Kempson!

Should we recommend that HI take a daily dose of nat-c. 6C three times a day plus, have an acute remedy on hand, such as aconite 30C, to take for acute anxiety attacks as they may arise during the course of work? The chronic is not necessarily also the acute remedy.

I've sort of done this more as an exercise than as a prescription. I'm not sure if HI was intending to take a new remedy based on our advice. This all started as a question about Bach Flowers. How long ago was the Sil given? It may be necessary to wait before doing anything else, and even then HI needs to be sure she wants to deviate from her current homoeopath's advice.

Is everyone going to call me Dr now? I'll have to start cutting my consultations down to 5 mins and look down my nose at anyone straying from my instructions. Maybe I'll start getting lots of free stuff, holidays, dinners. I'll have to start looking for my 2nd and 3rd house too.

<GASP> What? NO GOLF?

Thanks for your answer, once again . Makes sense - and reminds me about the patient's words. At this point in a case - is it acceptable to probe a bit further with questions do ya think? I guess it must be since you asked questions . Anyhow, I also appreciate your notes on Nat-Mur, Puls, etc..and the differences. Obviously it isn't so easy to distinguish while still learning them .

Best regards,

David,

I found a rubric in the head section--strikes his head because of the pain-ars.
Do you see arsenicum as playing an acute role in this case, as it is also a major anxiety remedy?
