Unhappy

Hi Everyone,

My husband has a terrible sore throat that came on him Thursday night. He suddenly (within an hour's time) developed a high fever (101.6) and his throat was bothersome, but he was still eating and drinking fine. I gave him Aco. 30C, 2 doses about 2 hours apart. On Friday, the temp was down (99.2), but the throat was much worse. On Friday, I gave him Lyc. 30C, followed by Lyc. 200C. On Saturday, the fever broke and he hasn't had anymore fever, but his throat is really hurting him. This is beyond my meager reportorizing skills and I'm hoping for some input from you.

He describes the pain as searing when swallowing anything, but it's somewhat amel. by warm liquids and cold applications on his neck. The pain is on the right side and extends into his right ear upon swallowing. When I asked him where it hurt, he placed his hand over the right side of his neck and ear. He has a strong desire to swallow, even though it is really painful for him. He also has a constant (at least every 4-5 minutes) hawking of yellow mucus. The hawking itself doesn't seem to hurt him, but he basically chokes, hawks and spits. the plegm seems to rise up in his throat. The pain seems to be more at the base of his throat, rather than on the soft palate.

One more thing, he's really pale and pasty looking. Normally, he has a very ruddy complexion.

Thank you for your input,

Lynn

Hepar Sulph tends to be more left sided. I would go with Mercurius and specifically Mercurius Iodatus Flavus, which favors the right side, has the exudate and strong inclination to swallow, even though it's painful.

This was what I was taught by the doctor I studied with. It's not a strongly left sided remedy, it's just a slight tendency. Hepar does have the extension into the ear which makes for a strong case, but I thought it sounded more like merc, so picked the right sided merc.

However, there are some references to hepar being left sided in: Phatak, throat; Murphy, generals & throat, inflammation; Boenninghausen, throat & complaints, sides.

By way of an update, my hubby is much better. I gave him the Hep S on Sunday. On Monday, he was still feeling so badly that he went to an MD. who, naturally prescribed antibiotics, although "it could be viral, it could be bacterial". He started feeling better around 2 pm Monday afternoon....and that was before I'd even picked up his prescription. He's pretty much back on top of things today. Yea!!! Homoepathy!!!

Hi Shirley,

Yes, I gave one dose of Hep S 30C, because that's what I had on hand, out of the remedies suggested. He's not on top of his game yet, but can eat and is feeling tons better.
