I would say this is a morphine reaction, since the symptoms are pretty unmediated by constitution - just a pure proving of morphine.
For that reason, I would think the best thing to try would be a cautious LM1 of Opium [you might try dissolving a granule in a drop of water and then adding 5ml alcohol and adminstering by olefaction], making sure the patient does not get any further morphine injections, to which she is clearly very sensitive. Remember to plus the Op a few times if you need to give subsequent doses. The remedies JV lists for drug overdose are the ones I would look at if the Op does not resolve it. |

Dear people,
a friend's mother has just had a hip replacement operation, followed by 3 doses of morphine (intra muscular), which, over 24 hours later she dosn't seem to be recovering from. My friend is worried about lasting effects on the vital force & is thinking to give Opium to try to antidote it. I am thinking perhaps Camphor, we are not sure. She is 76, but more like 66, active & socialble. Her current state is confused; her close relatives, names..etc; has vomitted a few times today; very pale; pupils dilated; passing small amounts of cloudy urine; drifts away when being spoken to; closes eyes & dosn't answer; suspicious of husband. The doctor is saying it's normal for her age, but my friend thinks she should have come round by now. She has had Arn. 1m earlier today. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Yours, Louise. |

This is NOT a normal reaction to an anaesthetic or morphine, although it does happen occasionally in the elderly. Usually it does resolve over a few days, so take heart! I`m so glad you are able to intervene with homeopathy, good luck!! |

Morphine also causes vomiting in people not having had anae..tics. though. I think it`s difficult to be axact about the causation.
OP may well be worth a try so would phos in my current limited knowledge.:confused |

Thankyou all so much for your replies, from me & Moira.
What we decided this morning was not to treat her, simply because neither of us is close enough to keep an eye on her at the minute. But in the light of what you've said about your father-in-law Volkman, I'm wondering if we shouldnt have just gone ahead. Yet another case, I wish I could say shocking, of allopathic crime, sorry to hear it Volkman. It's so difficult; all this is being discussed in whispered telephone conversations so as not to alarm other family members...or arouse the wrath of the docs! (eejits) But 36hrs after morphine, although she is improved, she still has these symptoms, only to a lesser degree. Right, well, if she isn't normal by tomorrow, we will get the remedy to her...it's better than the risk of permanent damage/death, and Moira will be up with her in the next few days to watch her. Thanks to everyone for the invaluable input. Louise. |
