A neighbour twisted her ankle 5 months ago, slipped on ice still suffering from fairly severe pain and stiffness which is better from rest and massage, worse on movement. Pressing pain on external maleolus, aching accross top of foot when walking. Taking week opiates (Tramadol)
X Ray no bony injury. Physio didn`t help.
Would arnica help perhaps initially with the muscle stiffness?

Without more info, Arnica is the best idea.
Try a single tablet of 200.

The problem with an injury that old is it probably has taken on characteristics of the person's constitutional remedy. A remedy suited to the person's general/emotional symptoms will stand a better chance of healing the injury than any acute remedy. Once the state has lasted this long it rarely responds to the injury remedies.

Thanks folks

She`s middle aged not be unkind mentally challenged? Barely literate or numerate, very much over weight, gets irratable easily. Tries very hard to keep up with her job as a nursing assisstant, gets worked up about little things always on the defensive. She says the pain is "really getting me down" She had a hysterectomy last year I`m not sure what for.
Her GP (not a homeopath) gave her sepia 6c which she takes on and off this helps her mood a little but not her pain.
Is this any help?

Dr B
Thanks. As a nurse I`m afraid I have difficulty adjusting my "orthodox" thinking patterns, and so was aiming at the local pathology!!
If I were to have a go at this (which I wouldn`t being totaly inexperienced) I thought of calc carb with her irratability and mental slowness, perhaps coming from fear of this being noticed by others, her weight etc.
I can see nux for her defensiveness and frustration trying to get things done also.
I am just beginning to study homeopathy with a view to eventually integrating it with my practice. The homeopathic approach differs so much! I do admire you all!!!

Why don't you also also have a look at Baryta carb? But I would still go with the Arnica 200 to begin with while a remedy is being sorted out.

My first thought was Baryta carb too, but that is probably a bit of an assumption. Many of the Bar-c people I have seen are actually quite bright, it is just that they feel stupid, or have the delusion that others think they are. A proper case would need to be taken.

Have you taken all the modalities of the injury? Worse for movement, better for warmth, worse first movement better continued movement, better pressure etc etc. This may help choose a temporary remedy specific for the patient rather than rote prescribing. Arnica does work well on recent injuries, not so well once the injury has set. An Arnica person does not want any help from a doctor or nurse, says nothing is wrong with them, cringes away if anyone comes near the affected part, tends to be closed off, worse for cold or any touch, not affectionate generally, have foul smelling stool or flatus, tend to bruise easily etc.
