Question

Hi everybody. . .

I'm looking for possible remedies for stress and depression for a friend. Here are some of his symptoms (sorry, this is long--these are from the SCL-90-R, if anyone knows what that is!):

Trouble remembering things
Feelings of being trapped or caught
Self-blaming
Feeling blocked in getting things done
Difficulty making decisions
Mind going blank
Trouble concentrating
Overeating
Having aggressive urges (to beat, injure, or harm someone or something)
Urges to break or smash things
Early morning awakening
Restless and disturbed sleep
Getting into frequent arguments
Feeling that others do not give proper credit for achievements
Feeling lonely even around others
Feeling so restless he can't sit still
Feelings of worthlessness
Feelings of impending doom
Feelings of guilt
Headaches
Nervousness or shakiness inside
Feeling critical of others
Feeling others are to blame for most of his troubles
Feeling easily annoyed or irritated
Feeling low in energy or slowed down
Temper outbursts he could not control
Feeling lonely
Feeling blue
Worrying too much
Feeling inferior
Feeling hopeless about the future
Feeling weak in parts of the body
Feeling tense or keyed up
Heavy feelings in arms and legs
Feeling he should be punished for his sins

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or need further info!

Thanks!!!

The Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) instrument, is a brief, multidimensional self-report inventory designed to screen for a broad range of psychological problems and symptoms of psychopathology. The SCL-90-R instrument is also useful as a progress or outcomes measurement instrument.
The SCL-90-R instrument is used by clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and counseling professionals in mental health, medical, and educational settings as well as for research purposes. It can be useful in both the initial evaluation of patients and for measuring patient progress during treatment.

All these symptoms can't be of same strength. U need to tell their relative importance. And the cause or origin of these symptoms in detail. And abt other non-psychological complaints that the patient has. And more details abt patient himself or herself. There must be around 100 rems covering such symptoms or may be more. Homeopaths need more info to differentiate between diff meds.

The symptoms I listed were all under the "extremely" or "quite a bit" category. To put it more simply, this 26 year old man is suffering mainly from fatigue, loss of interest in activities, headaches, irritability, feelings of worthlessness, restlessness, and has uncontrollable outbursts of anger at times.

Physically, he feels weak all over much of the time, suffers from frequent stomach upset and diarrhea, and has frequent headaches.

I know there are other particular things that would help determine a remedy, but I'm not sure what I should be looking at. I have a book of remedies, but I am unfamiliar with a lot of them and would like to be able to narrow down the lot!

I hope this helps. . . I can try to give more information in response to specific questions.

Thank you!

Sorry, I'm back again. I forgot to include significant things going on in his life right now that are almost certanatly the cause of or at least the cause of aggravation of his depression.

This man is a 26 year old Korean American who is currently undergoing a heated debate with his parents over his American (Caucasian) girlfriend. His father has threatened to disown him if he continues with her. Also, his girlfriend has put a lot of pressure on him to resolve the problem and also a lot of pressure to get married. He feels that b/c of his parents and his financial situation, marraige is not possible at the moment even though he does want to marry her someday.

He has a job at which he feels unappreciated and is surely wasting his talents. His work is simple and repetitive, which bores him a great deal. He also feels that his boss and the company in general discriminate against him and Asians in general, especially in light of his failure to receive any promotion or recognition. He is currently trying to change jobs, but has been searching unsuccessfully for a new job for more than 6 months.

These two factors--family life and work--are the main causes of his distress. In addition to these are the stresses of daily life that everyone has.

Ok, that's all I can think of for now!

Dear Kheuer,

I'm thinking about a remedy called
Veratrum album--famous for upset stomachs and diarrhea, with many of the mentals you described--haughtiness, desires to smash things, harm people, critical, also physically weak and exhausted, hyperactive/restless; you might give him a 30C potency three times a day for three days as a trial, stopping if he responds positively or negatively, and waiting to see what happens and report back to us.

Sincerely,

Snoopy

Nitric acid appears to be the medicine for this man. 30c, once daily should do.
But I was just wondering, why r u trying to prescribe for this man, if u r not a homeopath. Why not just refer him to a good local homeopath, who can monitor him regularly and prescribe accordingly??

Thanks for your suggestions. I am a close friend and my friend is a little skeptical about homeopathy but willing to try. I also don't know of any homeopaths in the area--but if anyone does, please let me know!
