My roommate woke up this morning with her eyes swollen, which she believes is an allergic reaction to the eyeshadow she was wearing for a play last night. It is red and kind of itchy but she says "dry-itchy." I wasn't sure if this would qualify as hives but gave her Apis this morning, which hasn't seemed to improve things much yet. Any suggestions? I don't know if she can get out of having to wear eyeshadow again tomorrow night...

Thanks,
Heidi

I would have tended to use Euphrasia tincture, diluted in an eyebath in the first instance. Brilliant stuff!!

I have had good response from Arsenicum Alb for chemical and makeup allergies.

After rehearsal last night her eyes got better, which she thinks is from all the facial expressions she makes in the play. Better from motion...Rhus tox? Also last night it was itching so much it woke her up and she put ice on it to make the itch go away. Intensifies at night...also Rhus tox.
Right eye is worse.

Only problem is, Rhus tox. is inimical to Apis, which I gave her yesterday morning. I'm sure she has brushed her teeth with mint toothpaste since...is this enough antidoting to not worry about inimical problems?

Also remember that Bovista is a specific remedy for aggravation from make-up, esp puffy swelling ( it is the puff-ball fungus after all.)

It might be worth asking when the reaction starts and what her emotional state is. Is it when the make up is put on or some time later? It could be part of some sort of anticipatory anxiety or general over-reaction. Has she ever had this type of symptom before?

Would it not be sensible to check the constituents of the eye shadow against another one which she has not reacted to ??????

For eg some metallic eye shadows contain Aluminium it could be something like this causing the problem

Thanks for all your suggestions; my roommate bought some hypo-allergenic eyeshadow and that seemed to work fine for her. The play went wonderfully

Wellll, ya know..Hahnemann did say to remove the cause before proceeding to try to cure ailments .

Wa la - she's cured . Just makes ya think - some of this stuff is just plain common sense, isn't it?
