Question

Hi! I'm pretty new to Homeopathy. What I'd like to know is
1) How effective are combination formulas (CF)sold over-the-counter in health stores? I know this is not how Homeopathy is supposed to work. But over where I live (Singapore) these are more available compared to single remedies.

2) Also I know that for single remedies, all you need is just one pellet for it to start working. Does the same applies to CF? bcos that's not what the instruction on the bottle says.

3) I also heard that Homeopathy is better used for treating chronic conditions or improving a persons constitution as a whole instead of acute condition. So what should I do when an acute condition does occur (eg.common ailments like cough and cold etc.)? I do not want to rely on conventional medicine if I have natural alternatives. Sometimes I just let the condition be but it almost always worsens or lead to further complications.

4) Is there any way I can treat myself & my child for minor acute conditions? I have problem finding a Homeopath in my area as Homeopathy is not commonly paracticed here. Can someone recommend a good self-help book? Will it be sufficient?

5) Presently I have a couple of single remedies and combination formulas at home. I find that with CF it does not work all the time. As for single remedies, I am still very confused about choosing the right one. I almost always get stresed out figuring out the right remedy. It's like trial and error. Will I be putting my family's health at risk? It's a very complex art. Yet a lot of self-help books make it sound like something achievable. Can someone pls help as I do find Homeopathy makes a lot of sense. I certainly believe that it works if practiced correctly. The problem is how can I achieve that as a lay person?

Thanks so much.

Combination remedies should be avoided. They are not homeopathy and in many cases they complicate a case unnecessarily and can definitely cause harm. If they suppress an underlying and more serious illness, then great danger will result.

You need some basics in homeopathy to answer all your other questions.
This is a good site for this kind of info:

www.demystify.com

and click on the Book On-line link.
hope it helps

Hi Allysa!

Miranda Castro writes very good self-help books. She doesn't insult your intelligence and addresses some of the questions you have asked.

Of course there are lots of other self-help books which are also brilliant but that's the one I turn to time and time again!

Personally I would suggest you stick to the lower potencies (6c) if prescribing for yourself for the family, or until you can find a qualified practioner.

The book on-line that Divina suggested is great and there's lots more you can learn online in particular here at this site.

Good luck

Deb

Hi Allysa,
I have some experience of using Complex Formulae professionally as part of nutritional programmes, although it is not something I have used since starting to study and understand homoeopathy.

The formulae I am used to are by companies like Heel and Reckeweg they are usually complexes of low potencies (3D - 10D) of one or more remedies, sometimes with potentised tissue salts etc.

The bottom line is that these formulae represent the medicinal use of potentised substances, this is not homoeopathy as no attempt is made to match the remedy to the patient. However they can be useful as part of a holistic programme, for example where I have had to try to produce a very rapid detoxification in a patient then a CF which addresses the liver (usually a mix of Nux Vom and Lycopodium) does help to remove toxins from the bloodstream and prevent horrendous aggravations. I now tend to use herbs instead e.g. milk thistle to get similar results but I don't find them as effective as the CF. I stopped using them because I could not reconcile their use with my new found knowledge and belief in homoeopathic principles.

Don't know if this helps or confuses things?

Dave

Angry

I was left some material yesterday by a Rep. for what is being promoted as homoeopathic detoxifiacton and on reading the information am horrified at what they are promoting.
For instance to "correct EMF inbalances" in patients who are overly sensitive to other medications, the complex offered contains 1M -10M potencies of the metals.
The notes for practitioners say what conditions that the remedies can cover & seem to be aimed at practitioners from other fields that want to "prescribe" homeopathic remedies. The instructions for dosage in the booklet suggest to repeat the prescription and to continue over a period of time for up to several months.
Imagine the damage to a susceptible individual being hit with 10M Aurum in a complex with other metals for that period of time. ...

Oh dear, and here I was thinking that Australia was heading in a more positive direction with complementary health. Yikes, with promotion like that, homoeopathy will suffer, as will the patients of the practitioners who take up this practice.

Sorry, Alyssa, this doesn't really have much to do with your question, does it? My apologies.

Hi Allysa,
I'm Simon (not the same as Simone) and 2 years ago I went to Singapore to stay with a friend and I interviewed the ONLY local Homeopath for Student Homeopath. She is a member of The Society of Homeopaths and her name is Gill Atkinson and her details are
21a Lorong Liput,
Holland Village,
Singapore 277733
Tel: 00 65 474 3994
She went to The Devon School of Homeopathy and so she prescribes in the classical one remedy at a time method and she was charming. I recommend you give her a call. If you can't get hold of her I have her email somewhere in the depths of my hard-drive.......Anyway,
All the best
Simon

Hi Simon,

Sorry, I'm still not familiar with this board. Think I've just posted a reply to you but not reflected here. Anyway, thanks for the contact. It's most valuable and would be great if you manage to find her email add. If not it's alright, still have her local add and contact number. Have a great day ahead. I'm off to work now.
