Question

Does any body has an experience of treating recurrent ulcer of the mouth?
They come spontaneously, without any relationship to certain time periods,no moon relationship,no food allergy, they heal on their own in about 2 weeks time.they are usually one or two in numbers, somtimes involve the lips, sometime gum or buccal or mucosa or tongue or fauces. They are painful.Mouth does not water increasely neither it is dry.there is no peculiar smell or discharge from the mouth or the ulcer.Shape of the ulcer is not perfectly round neither completely irregular.Margin are neither everted or punched out.Age of the patient is 13 year old girl. She has general preferance for open air.
I have tried silicea,Nit.ac., Fluor.ac.,Ars.iod.,Merc.,Hydrastis,Lach.,Sulphur,C lementis etc.

Please,help me out.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, the info you give does not point toward any particular remedy. The ulcers have no apparent unusual features or modalities. So you need to look at her generals (heat/cold tolerance, perspiration, food preferences, aversions and intolerances, sleep pattern and position, dreams, menstrual problems), her whole mental picture, and of course any other physical problems, as well as past medical history, family history - if you want to narrow down. I'm sure if you post this info here, someone will be glad to help.

It's worth remembering that the mouth is the "top end" of the alimentary canal and there is always a connection. Also in my experience mental symptoms are important. In other words you need to take a full case (as previous respondends recommend)

Dear sir
Greetings!
Many thanks for your interest and prompt reply. Here is the information you asked for:

Saba Sara Samuel; student; Lahore, Pakistan.

Normal Height.

Normal build.

13 years.

Chief Complaints: Recurrent, spontaneously occurring painful ulcers in the mouth.
Sometimes on the inner lips, sometimes inner cheek, gums, tongue or fauces. No recognizable factor seems to cause it or accelerate it's healing.
There is no definite relationship with time of day or season or phases of moon.
Warm liquid in the mouth seems to give amelioration.
Initially, the discharge from the ulcer is watery then later on; it is pussy (yellow). No increase or decrease with time or position.
Base of the ulcer is yellowish white. Shape is oval or rounded or oblong. Margins swollen and firm. Not punched out or irregular.
If secondary infection is controlled with antibiotics then ulcers heal in about 10 - 15 days. There is no scar mark left behind.
When secondary infection occurs (yellow pus) in the ulcer; there is fever (about 100 - 101 F) otherwise there is only sense of feverishness with the ulcers.
Fever is continuous does not show spikes or wavy pattern. Mouth is somewhat dry. Thirsty but not excessively. Does not like covering. Like open air.

At the age of 4-5 years, I used to squint inwardly. Case was diagnosed to be due to weakness of the right eye. After vigorous patching of the normal eye (left) the vision of my eye improved and so did my squint.
Now I wear glasses with power less than 1.

Hearing, taste and smell are normal.

Appetite is good.

Cravings: There is no unusual liking for any type of food.

Aversions: No particucular aversion.
There are no food allergies.

Thirst is normal.
Stool is normal. Nothing unusual.

Piles. No.

Urine: Pale yellow, Watery transparent, 2-3 times a day. No sediments.

Respiration: Normal smooth respiration. But sometimes during playing basketball spell of breathlessness. No wheeze. No cyanosis. It goes after rest.

Cough: No

Expectoration: Snuffles most of the times. Mucoid discharge from nose, which I swallow.

Menses: Regular. Once in 30 days for 3-4 days. No excessive bleeding. Color red. No pain.

No leucorrhoea.

Sour smelling sweat in summer. Prickly heat in summer.

Sleep: Sleep is refreshing. Habit of sleeping at 8.00 p.m. No unusual dreams. Seldom dream. Sleep with head high. Sleep sometimes prone, sometimes supine and sometimes on sides.

Aggravations: Summer heat makes me weak.

Ameliorations: Winter is all right

Jealous. Complaining. Brooding over the past injustices. Obstinate. At first quick to anger but later on feel sorry.

My teeth take longer to erupt and they are not aligned properly .For this problem I am under care of a dentist who is doing serial extraction of my milk teeth.

I hope this will help you in selection of the right remedy.
Thanking you in anticipation for your gracious concern.

Yours truly,
Mark398.

Just a few more questions Please:

1. When did this trouble started?

2. Any history of TB in the family?

3. Any other diseases in the family?

4. How emotional is she?

This could need Phos. Another possiblity is Calc, but I think phos is more likely.

Strong infusion of camomile tea (wash mouth out regularly during the day you do not have to swallow ) can usually heal them over night. Well worth a try.
