Not only do I personally need a prescription for this, I'm also looking for advice on what to do for more than a few kitties.

I put 2 cats to sleep on Saturday (1 or old age the other from complications of URD). This has been the 3rd such death that look like an upper resp. but turns deadly. Blood work reveals, no WBC and strange liver levels. Symptoms are nothing I can definitly recognize and we don't know what we are treating.

Currently have the following:
Pete: URD symptoms, lots of mucus, green/yellow discharge from nose, right eye infected & red, bulky stool, nose painful to touch, not eating, excessive thirst
Buddy: watery, brown diarrhea (non-debilitating), appetite good one minute, lacking the next, some sneezing, excessive thirst & heat
Sonny: excessive thirst, bulky stool, appetite normal
Anja: extremely swollen and painful joints in the rear legs below the knee, some fluid; not eating or drinking

The top 3 I gave merc 30ch to cover all their symptoms, no improvement on Buddy, slight improvement on nasal discharge in Pete, slight improvement (excessive thrist) in Sonny. Gave Anja Arn 200ch last night before she was seen today by vet, her temp is a little high, vet thinks may be delayed vaccine reaction (done on the 22nd)-I think its viral and think to give Acon tonight. I'm trying to prescribe epidemically because there are too many -can anyone see commonality to do so in these cases (I thought merc was a pretty good choice last night, but with the recent joint pain case it doesn't really work)

Maybe I'm just nuts, but I'm not sure what else to do. For mutiple cases we tend to treat allopathically but allopathy has been failing miserably of late (we've put down 4 cats in the last 3 weeks with this virus).

PS CHACHA: Ign did not have any affect; this cat like one of my own I think also has this aforementioned virus-so I think I'm dealing maybe with an accute rather than chronic problem in him right now.

Wonders never cease! When I checked all the kitties after work, all but Anja were fine (merc worked?)! Conjestion & diarrhea, thirst gone. So I gave the bryonia to Anja, however she does not seem much improved this morning and in fact threw up the food I force fed to her last night.

kittie with the joint pain is not doing well. Still appears painful. Force feeding are thrown up immediately (and she spits out a great deal during the feedings). Any suggestions?

krista - are you confident that this cat has the same 'epidemic' that the other cats had?
[her symptoms seemed to be different]

if you are confident that she is
1. suffering the same disease and
2. that her symptoms are also covered by mercurius [even though different from those expressed by the others]
- then why not try merc?

on the other hand, if you cannot answer those two questions in the affirmative with reasonable confidence, then it would be worth detailing her current state to see what other remedy could help.

Thanks Anna, I am not convinced that she has the samething, in fact the vet strongly suspects polyarthritus caused from vaccine. Her symptoms are:
nausea; any food force fed is almost immediately thrown up (like a reflex)
no thirst
no appetite
extremely swollen and sore joint pain (worse lower limbs)
vexed, worse handling
small amount of blood found in the vagina, could be in heat
not pregnant, no bone breaks (x-ray confirmed)
somewhat swollen abdomin
everything seems to cause pain
nausea better for lying quitely and only comes on when force fed (or given anything orally) and also by movement

Given these symptoms and possible vaccine involvment I gave her Nux v over phos with no improvement. Another look also gave rhus t possible but I'm not sure it fits better than phos, and then there is always acon....

krista,
say what the swelling is like [puffy, hard, hot, cold, red etc], confirm that the cat vomiting everything includes plain water.
if it's urgent life-and-death my best current guess is sulfur.

thinking again - if the vet thinks it's a vaccine reaction that could be because s/he has seen it before.
if so, maybe a prognosis would be forthcoming? the whole episode might blow over with just some good tlc and no remedy.
