Exclamation

Sorry to be a pain everyone but please can someone help!

I posted an earlier message (fracture help needed) and have since been recommended Arnica for pain and Symphytum for healing of my boyfriends broken arm.

I have some questions:

At what strengh should i give these, is 30c o'k?

How often should they be given and for how many days?

Advice would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Thumbs up

If you have it use Arnica 200, one dose once only for first aid, then wait and see how things go before using symphytum.
If you only have Arnica 30 for the moment, then don't delay, use one dose of that until you can obtain 200.

Don't worry--the arnica will also help the bone to heal. I would give the Arnica you have--its a 30c, right?--use as needed. Your boyfriend should experience some pain relief from the first dose, so then you could administer another when the pain is more strongly felt; that should again improve things, for a longer period of time; when (and if) the pain begins again, give another dose. No need to rush out for the 200c when you can repeat the lower dose here. If the arnica causes significant improvement in pain, it may be the only remedy you need.

Symphytum is good where there has been damage to the periosteum of the bone, and should help to rectify "the non-union of fractures". Another good remedy to repair bone fractures is Calc Phos...But, try the arnica first. How did the bone break?

It's a clean break to the Scaphoid, broken when he fell on it (putting his arm out behind himself to break the fall). The doctor mentioned that there was a possibility of non-union.

If you think arnica is sufficient then i'll start with that. I just want to give the bone the best chance of healing in the fastest time.

I prescribe Symphytum 6x (or 6c) and this should be taken twice a day for 2 or 3 weeks after the Arnica. It is very important to make sure that the break has been set correctly (x ray?) before starting the symphytum.

Calc Phos can be taken at the same time as Tissue salts (sometimes called cell salts) if the bones are weak as in osteoporosis.

Thanks Ricky I'll start with the symphytum as soon as the arnica has finished. My boyfriend says that the pain has become much better since we started the arnica....Thank you everyone!

Nice to hear he got some relief! .

Post ANY changes in his symtpoms, though - as they crop up. Esp before switching to the other remedy .

Also, I recall someone saying the bone need to really be set in the right place before giving Symph - has he had it set? If so - did they xray it after to check (just curious).

Take care,
Lisa

Lisa,

He had it x-rayed at A&E (ER)and then it was set within two hours of the accident. He went for a follow up appointment at the fracture clinic the next day where they checked the plaster but no further x-ray. He has another appointment on April 18th (6 weeks) when they will remove the cast and x-ray before re-plastering if necessary. If anyone has any suggestions of anything we can do/should not do then let us know. My boyfriend sends his thanks for all the advice.

While you're all being so helpful perhaps i could pick your brains about something else! He wears contact lenses and has very sensitive eyes. After prolonged periods of use, exposure to smoke, wind, strong sunlight and especially when he's tired his eyes become very itchy and blood shot. He uses a solution for sensitive eyes when cleaning and storing his lenses. I was just curious to know if anyone has any suggestions of things he can do to help his eyes? Thank you all, your time really is very much appreciated.

Sounds to me as if he is wearing gas permeable hard lens. If so change to soft disposable ones. Ther is also a solution that I use called Refresh. You can use it in the eyes with the lenses in to rewet them.
