I have three children ages 6,4,2. They were exposed to chicken pox. I want to know what things to do before, during and after the breakout occurs. I have been using a homeopathy home kit for over a year now. I'm a beginner but a complete believer is this method. Please help. sklindt

And I just want to add to Ricky's advice:
Please, if they do break out in spots - do NOT suppress the itch - i.e. don't use Calamine lotion or the like to stop the itching... try to soothe the itch with something that dosen't suppress... perhaps others can make a recommendation of what soothes itching without suppressing the disease... Also - as Ricky said, post the symptoms here if they do come down with it....and I'm sure someone will be able to help out. If it is a mild case, then I'd say it is probably best to let the disease run its course...but if there is a high fever, or great discomfort, then post and see what help is offered. All the best, Lisa |

It is important not to panic. Chicken pox is a beneficial illness that is extremely important in helping children to develop. Only rarely does it develop into anything serious.
Do not use remedies routinely to suppress the itching. Homoeopathy can suppress the illness as well, if not better , than orthodox medicine. If the children are relatively happy, although itchy, then it is best to let them go through it unaided. I believe it is one of the functions of chicken pox to mature a child's immune system. When I have found children to be quite upset, weepy, wanting lots of attention etc etc, then Puls has always helped them get over the chicken pox, especially if the develop a cough with it that is worse at night. ------------------ David Kempson Dip.Homoeopathic Medicine Member A.H.A(Australia) [This message has been edited by DavidJK (edited 30 January 2001).] |

After a dose of chickenm pox children are seen to grow physically and mentally. If the child's body does not learn to use its immune sydtem the thymus gland stays artificially large in puberty which may ause problems. Although I took note of what David said I give Rhus Tox to help with the itching. However it is a case of one dose and wait and do not repeat unless necessary. If you give too many doses the child becomes very hyper!!

Hi,
When my daughter (then 2) had chickenpox (she's not vaccinated) it was a clear case of Belladonna with high fever. We helped her not to scratch by giving frequent baths with corn starch in it - she loved it. The whole thing was over very quickly, not even a week and the spots faded without leaving any marks. It was one of my first tests going "against" allopathy with a non-vaccinated child who had the childhood illness that could be prevented. In fact, I invited all my other friends whose kids were not vaccinated to come and "catch" it. When chicken pox ran through preschool the next year, all the other moms were terrified - I was totally relaxed ! ![]() As others mentioned. It's a step in the child's development and my daughter grew literally right after it was over, mentally, emotionally and physically. You're lucky if all get it at once, then you're over and done with. Mind you, every one of your kids could show different symptoms and need a different remedy. Claudia |

Thank you everyone for the help. I'm not stressed, I just like to be prepared. I didn't know about the information on immune system. I found that to be interesting. The corn-starch baths are sound advise. I want to purchase all need supplies before the possible break out. I have the Rhus. Tox 30x already and a home kit full of other remedies to aid in each of the possible side effects or discomforts. I there anything to put onto the spots that soothes and doesn't prevent or suppress the course of the disease????
