Hi

I have often seen people on this board refer to being a blood type O with particular reference. I noticed tonight that Mamma3 made reference to this again and a special diet.

Can anyone throw any more light on this as it is a mystery to me!!! BTW I AM an O!!

Thanks
Deb

Cool

Well, Peter D'Adamo has written a book called 'Eat Right For Your Type'. He explains how and why certain blood types do better on certain diets.

O was the first blood type. The original O's lived on fish/meat and veggies. They were also used to intense physical activity (such as hunting down buffalo and running away from tigers).

Have you ever tried to go on a vegetarian diet and failed? Your genetic make up is why.

I had a blood type O friend who almost "whole grained" herself to death! Whole wheat is the worst. The fewer grains you eat the better.

Here's a bit from his book "Type O's have a tendency to have low levels of thyroid hormone. This condition, called hypothyroidism, occurs because Type O's tend not to produce enough iodine- a mineral whose sole purpose is thyroid hormone production."

Also from his book are food you should avoid: Cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and mustard greens, THEY ALL INHIBIT THYROID PRODUCTION!

A few foods to incorporate: kelp, seafood, and iodized sea salt (in moderation). THEY ALL INCREASE THYROID PRODUCTION!

Of the seafood, a few should be avoided: Barracuda, Catfish, caviar, conch, pickled herring (nonpickled is actually beneficial), lox (nonsmoked slamon is beneficial), and octopus.

He has a website which I believe is: www.dadamo.com

Any other questions? Please ask! I have been studying this for the past three years and the more I get into it, the more in awe I am!

Chocolate and sugar are neutral substances according to this diet for all blood types(food is rated as beneficial, neutral or harmful).

Hi

Thanks all.

Mamma3 I will look at that web-site (I've just logged on). If you like I am a failed veggie. I started vegetarianism in 1984 and gave up in 1999! Why? Because I found that it helped my tendancy to depression. I particularly needed meat in my pregnancies and after when breast feeding. Even though all through those times blood tests showed that my haemoglobin levels were high. Recently, of my own accord, I have given up wheat for digestive problems. I always chose sea salt for iodine, since 1981. Although now I wonder about that and the implicatons for Nat Mur? But that is a 'by the by'.

Personally I cannot stand the smell of cooking meat! I can cope with chicken and fish and bacon. So I remain a veggie at heart . That been said I do reach a point when I know I have to have meat. I can't stand the veggies you mentioned and would never even consider eating the fish on the list. They are not regulars on the menu in my part of the world.

So thanks for your replys. And yours Barbi, I too crave chocolate (not burgers) and loads of tea....

Deb

Hey Deb!

About beverages.... water is the only beneficial.
Green tea and beer are nuetral.
Black tea and coffee are to be avoided.

There may be a juice or two that are beneficial.

White potatoes should be avoided.

Sweat potatoes are beneficial!

A friend of mine called me last month as her daughter had been sick for some time (AB). I told her to pick a few items off the beneficial list and give them to her every day. She was so amazed by the results!!!!

One thing to remember is that his book is a guide to eating/living well. Your toes won't fall off or anything if you eat a danish every now and then. But it is important to realize the effect of eating the avoids in quantity on a daily basis. (As with my friend who thought she was doing a good thing by grinding her own whole wheat flour. She came down with one of those mysterious auto immune disorders. She insists on being veg, too)

Good luck!

Lisa..if you are an 0 negative...then dairy products and flour products are even worse for you than just a plain 0. I don't know if that applies to the other negative blood types. D'adamo might address that in his new book, live right for your type.
