lemm,
The first thing is to check for any Aluminium exposure. If any of your dad's cooking utensils are aluminium they need to be replaced by steel or ceramic. Also if he takes any indigestion remedies, such as Gaviscon or other brands containing aluminium, they should be changed. Also the water supply to his house should be checked for aluminium levels. Aluminium is not the only cause of Alzheimers, but it is a major one. The progress of Alzheimer's Disease can be slowed [or even stopped and reversed occasionally] by homoeopathy. This requires expert homoeopathic care, so he needs to be found a genuine expert competent homoeopath to take his case and to see him regularly for assessment. Also, for you and your family, I recommend two books by John Bailey called "Iris - a Memoir" and "Iris and the Friends" in which the author lovingly describes his care of his wife as she suffered Alzheimers. I think it would give anyone in your situation a lot of courage. I found the books personally helpful. |

My mother in law also has dementia - the medics have never actually said it's alzheimers.
I treat her with Plumbum as she does have a quite marked facial twitch and other plumbum symptoms. She reacts to the remedy well. It has certainly kept her stable for quite a while. |

Update - My mother-in-law says that she has been a lot better this week, "not like the week before". I told her that she must tell me when she doesn't feel well again. I will then redose!!
Hoppitt - Dementia is not the same as Altzheimers. The latter can only be diagnosed with a brain scan. [This message has been edited by Ricky (edited 17 December 2000).] |

I beg to differ Ricky- Alzheimers is the commonest form of dementia- in fact one of its other names is Dementia Alzheimers Type (DAT).
Alzheimers can only be diagnosed with certainty at autopsy. Ct scans and MRI scans are used to rule out tumours, brain injuries and other possible causes of the symptoms. They can be used to image atrophy of the brain which happens in Alzheimers but also in many other conditions (incl. eg. alcoholism!) but the scan can not be cause specific. There has been a study done into trying to diagnose the condition early by using SPECT-Single Photon Emmission Computerised Tomography. They looked at people with memory loss and correctly identified 80% of those who went on to develop Alzheimers. |

As you are a radiographer I bow to your superior knowledge Hoppitt
. All I know is the way my mother in law was diagnosed was with a brain scan + psychological testing. It was through this she was identified as being in the early stages of Alzheimer's and thus a suitable candidate for Arisept treatment. And as I have said she seems to be doing very well on this + the odd Alumina 200 wich I prescribed through what symptoms I could identify which without her co operation was difficult!! She went from someone who had gone really quiet (2 years ago) back to her normal vivacious manner.

It's brilliant that she is doing so well.
I don't know anything about the treatment you mention- what is it? It's such an awful disease- I always remember Nancy Reagan saying it's like a 'long goodbye'.Very very sad. My husband lives in fear of it or anything similar as his maternal grandmother had senile dementia.(All these different terms are very confusing!) ![]() I hope the Alumin goes on helping your mum in law for a long while yet. |
