Please don't use the words "combination" and "Remedies" in the same breath. In homeopathy the similimum is the remedy and a combination is not similar to anything!

I was horrified a while back to find a line of combination remedies at the grocery store that were prepared in 200C. What a mess that could create!

There are several reasons for not using combinations.

1. We don't know what remedies actually do when put together - do they remain a collection of seperate remedies or merge into a new one?

2. There is no way to determine which remedy actually worked. When it comes time to increase potency, which remedy do you increase? All of them? At some point taking an M potency of 10 remedies could cause serious problems.

3. Managment of the case becomes impossible. How do you know which complementary remedy to use, which nosode, what remedy is known to follow well?

4. It is possible combining remedies may antidote each other, perhaps having no effect, but steering you away from one of the remedies which was correct.

5. Many of the combinations include a variety of remedies with similar effects. Although one of these may be appropriate, the others probably aren't, but the patient could be sensitive to them and begin a proving.

6. As practitioners, apart from the laziness in such prescribing, we never learn how a remedy works or presents in clinic, since we don't know which remedy acutally worked. The ability to learn from our successes and our failures helps us to become better homoeopaths.

However I do use some of the combination Tissue Salts 6x, alone or with a constitutional remedy. I don't find these upset the action of a corrstly prescribed homeopathic remedy.
