I don't have much info and was hoping there may be a general remedy for this as I have few symptoms to give. My neighbors boy, 3yrs. was on an antibiotic for a severe, painful ear infection. He has been on it for 8 days and has been on it in the past, I beleive it is called cefcil or something similar. Last night he fell asleep at 6pm which is unheard of for him and awoke this morning with red welts on his back and tummy and the back of his knees are red as are the tops of his feet. I have no info if it is hot or painful but I do know the boy won't let mom touch it. Her doctor is seeing them in an hour and seems to think it is a reaction to the antibiotic.

Any help would be appreciated as I am trying to turn the mom on to homeopathy but she is afraid of it. The child has a multitude of health problems, diabetes, growth disorder, etc. and I would love to see him get homeopathic care.

If it was sulphur-based, then this is not an unusual reaction. I think 30% of my patients are allergic to sulphur based a/b. I haven't ever tried Sulphur to antidote though, just prescribed the indicated remedy. If the eruptions are hot, though, it could be an idea. However, it is possible the a/b have moved the symptoms out onto the skin. Did the ear infection clear up?

Barb,

In Murphy's Repertory, Skin chapter:
Urticaria-hives, antibiotics, after-Nit-ac. is there as a 2. It's the only 2. All the rest are 1's: apis, ars., moni., pen.

David and Snoopy,

Thanks for the help. Snoopy I just ordered my Murphy rep and can't wait for it to come. With this case, The little guy is getting worse, hives are everywhere but worst on his feet. They are developing a wheel appearance with the center less raised. He was grabbing his ear and the doctor found hives in there - his temp. taken with an ear thermometer in that ear was 102.5 but 97 in the other ear (farenheight) The doctor is giving prednisone Does this info narrow it down at all?

Dear Barb,

I doubt that you have homeopathic penicillin or monilia albicans, so that leaves us with just 3 remedies: nit-ac., apis and ars. Apis would have swollen, hot, red, itchy or burning eruptions which would be better for cold applications.

Arsenicum would have burning, itching urticaria, worse at night and cold air and better warmth, with elongated wheals.

I'm sorry I have nothing to go on for nit-ac. except that it is probably an antidote to the bad effects of antibiotics in general.

Good luck!

Snoopy

Cefzil is a second generation cephalosporin. We often see people who think they are allergic to antibiotics when they are actually allergic to molds and yeast. It's important to let physicians know. There are other classes of antibiotics that can be safely used if needed. Better though to go to a homeopath - no allergic reactions at all!
Hope one of the remedies helped the boy this time.

Hi Barb,

If its actually a mold the child's allergic to, I'd try the nitric acid. It is an almost specific for the bad after effects of anti-biotic use...including such effects as yeast growths. Hope it helps.

There is too little to go on, but the comment from sreichman was of great use.

Thanks very much to Divina as well for the comment about AcNit for antibiotics which I will tuck away for reference.

If it is a mould allergy then Phos is to be considered as well - it also covers growth disorders and diabetes insipidus, and ear infections of course.

If the doctor is giving Prednisone [corticosteroid] no remedy can work, so it could only be disheartening to try it until the steroid is stopped Barb.
