Jen, my boys(4)they give me inspiration too.
Cheeky faces, loads of attitude, drives me crazy, makes me laugh; little gifts they give to me;seashells, chewing gum, bits of scribbled paper. Sickness, not like Bre, but other, holding them, wishing I could take it from them, storming out the allopaths door (whilst calling him foul names), seeking alternatives, feeling my way towards cure, intuitively, learning, knowing my kids, perscribing in the dead of the night on a wing and a prayer, homeopathy is not a thing to be feared, I love my kids and that's the main cure; go gently by all means and find the road like a rock beneth you. It is there; everything we need to be well is there. Provided. Intended.
Love
Louise.

Louise, you are so right. It's the little things in life that make it all worthwhile. Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a wonderful day with your 4 wonderful boys.

Trust no future however pleasent;
Let the dead past bury its dead.
Act-act in the living present,
Heart within, and God o'erhead.

Okay, my turn!

Louise, I so loved what you said about the "fine-ness" of creating one's own reality--out of words, smiley faces, etc. Because that is all we do. So, in that light, I've found a small poem for this thread.

"19"
You let me sing, you lifted me up, you gave my soul a beam to travel on. You folded your distance back into my heart. You drew the tears back to my eyes. You hid me in the mountain of your word. You gave the injury a tongue to heal itself. You covered my head with my teacher's care, you bound my arm with my grandfather's strength.

O beloved speaking, O comfort whispering in the terror, unspeakable explanation of the smoke and cruelty, undo the self-conspiracy,
let me dare the boldness of joy.

The Book of Mercy, by Leonard Cohen

Ah, Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, whiskey...I think I've found heaven.

GM - "Some people say "there's a woman to blame" But I know, it's my own damn fault" If we are going to quote songs, etc... Why don't you sing "Wasting away in Marguarita-ville!"

Justice grooves my soul too.
And innocence until proven guilty.
Er..forgot to mention dancing on the kitchen table, Latin American.

Louise's post 3.31AM did something to my soul.

"...find the road like a rock beneth you"

reminded me of Eliot's Wasteland.

Louise, your poems have that Eliot-like cadence but they are more direct, not fearing the subject so much as to flee to allusions.
And they are very much women's poems, coming from the experience and love of motherhood and a woman's life fully lived. Your words inspire me to hope that life and being a woman is rich and desireable, despite the pain.

As for creating one's own reality - it reminded me of the true story of a prisoner of war in a Japanese camp in the Second WW.
Left in a cell with nothing to do all day, in the stench and sweltering heat, he decided to make a rose in his mind to pass the time. Each day he would imagine in detail a new petal - its colour variation, veins, texture. On the day the rose was complete the smell of bodies in the prison was overwhelmed by the fragrance of roses emanating from his cell.
