Cool

G'Day...

I've recently moved to Melbourne and am seeking a good GP to call my own - preferably one with sound homoeopathic qualifications and clinical experience. The kind of person and practice I'm looking for will be patient-focused, laid-back, down-to-earth, with a communitarian ethos and a strong scientific bent. Preferably male, but any good medico will do fine.

No salesmen, new-age evangelist, Toorak-tractor driving, big-white doctors need apply. (Thanks all the same.)

Perhaps there is an association which I might contact? Or if anyone can recommend a practitioner I'd be very grateful.

Alternatively, GPs with good working relationships or connexions with suitable homoeopaths might fit the bill.

Cheers,
Corey

Corey,

It is appropriate for me that you ask this question, I am moving to Melbourne ( I am presuming you mean MEL Australia) in the next couple of weeks and have been wondering the same thing. So lets hope that the community can offer some help.

I was also looking for a homeopathic pharmacy to get supplies from.

I am afraid my net searches have proved fruitless.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks
AR

Hi,

I know there is at least one practitioner on this BB who has practiced in Australia and has just recently moved to NZ--so perhaps you will find an answer from him soon.

In the meantime, look at this website for some possible names and addresses:

www.homeopathic.org

There is also an organization in New Zealand with a website and some people who could direct you to pharmacies and practitioners they are affiliated with. I know NZ is another place entirely, but chances are good people know practitioners and services available in both communities. I think there is a link to this site from the HomeopathyHome.com site with which this BB is affiliated.

Good luck to you both,
Divina

You might try contacting the Australian Homoeopathic Association for a list of GPs practicing homoeopathy in Melbourne. The homeopathyhome page has a link to their website and an email address in their directory. There is a homeopathic pharmacy in New Zealand who can supply you with remedies, but, generally, in Australia the remedies are supplied by the practitioners only.

All the best,

Thanks to Divina, Simone and AR...

Like AR, my own web searches have turned up nothing so far.

I undertand that there is - or at least used to be - an Australian Faculty of Medical Homoeopathy or some such. Does anyone know more about this?

Reflecting on Simone's comments re: homoeopathic drugs available in NZ pharmacies. I was pleasantly surprised to see this on my last visit to NZ a few years ago. I've lived in three Australian capitals and am constantly disappointed. It annoys me that I have to go to healthfood shops, ferret through all the stuff I don't want and pay through the nose to get the most basic of homoeopathic medications, e.g. nux vomica.

Lastly, I should say that I meant no offence to lay or non-medically qualified practitioners by my initial query. (I consulted a very good naturopath/homoeopath in Perth for many years.) It is simply that I generally more comfortable with medical professionals - ones who understands homoeopathy's limitations - and don't wish to have to enlist an army of expensive specialists. Nor do I wish to waste my time and money on idealogues (whether medically trained or not!).

Lastly, AR - perhaps we can exchange whatever information we come across?

Cheers
Corey

Corey

I am currently living in NZ and have found a good homeopathic pharmacy for mail order which of course I can get overnight here,( it is called Simillimum Homeopathic Pharmacy, email address: orders@arnica.co.nz) just like Helios used to do for me in UK.

However, didn't really expect to have to send back to NZ for remedies, and as I am training to be a homeopath (first year only), I want to be able to build my stock, where do practitioners obtain there stocks I wonder in Aus?

I have tried the Australian Homeopathic Association site which appears to be dead, I was transferred to a new site which subsequently died on me. I'll keep trying.

As for a pharmacy although I have not tried it www.prahan-pharmacy.com, might be worth a try, don't know whether you can actually visit it but the online seemed ok without trying it.

I have sent an email to the email link given on this site for Australia Homoeopathic Association, and it has been returned to me as unknown address, so the trail seems dead on that one. Unless there is a phone number locally.

Any ideas anyone?

You would best ask people like the Australian Natural Therapists Assoc., the AHA and the local colleges (like those here in Melbourne) for the most informed answer to that query. You'll find the colleges on the web - they're either private or run through the Colleges of Techincal and Further Education (or TAFE).

However, I do know of three main homoeopathic drug companies: Reckeweg, Brauer (in South Australia) and Martin & Pleasance here in Victoria. There are others - mainly food supplement outfits who've branched out a little. For more info check out the website: http://www.lifespan.com.au/intro.htm

It's just the viewpoint of a consumer, but I've trusted Brauer for years - they manufacture complexes and simplexes. M&P I've used too. Reckeweg seem to concentrate on complex solutions.

I've found homoeopathic pharmacists in Fremantle and Brisbane. I understand there are people here in Victoria too, but I've not gone looking for them. I guess my gripe is that I shouldn't have to. I understand that homoeopathy is still on the outer (and perhaps it needs to be for a while), but the average pharmacy here will supply protein drinks, and a whole range of stuff for which there is little evidence of efficacy, yet bugger all homoeopathics... I resent having to pay nearly $20 for a small bottle of Nux Vomica 6c from a healthfood shop. I'm in a minority of consumers though. I too would like to find a reputable homoeopathic pharmacist so I can build up a bit of a first-aid kit.

Sorry to whinge.

Corey

The name behind Prahan pharmacy sounds remarkably like the guy who ran such a place in Fremantle WA... I wonder if they're one and the same.
