Hi Mottemama
Just a word of support. Hang in there and good luck to you and your little one. One note here that can encourage you to keep going this route rather than the suppressive treatments by the MDs is that suppressed eczema can lead to asthma ! Cure is possible, especially for young ones who react rather fast to the correct remedy.
Best wishes, Claudia

My son had problems like this too when he was a baby. I found the two main things that aggravated it were my dairy consumption (if I had ANY dairy at all he got a rash) and the cheap snaps on his outfits. I had to keep him in an undershirt too (esp when he was droolling alot from teething) and change it if it got wet. Even at 18months he still got a rassh if I ate dairy and now at 6yrs he gets the same rassh if he has any.

I think what I"m getting at is if you havent already try totally giving up dairy in your diet and see if it helps. It could take up to two weeks to get it all out of your system. Then if it helps and you want to prove it just suddenly start eating large ammounts again and watch for a reaction.

Thumbs up

Ricky, Neal's Yard Remedies sell a totally bland cream base without any essential oil or active ingredients. It's about £15 for a big tub unfortunately. I don't know if there are any plant based creams available on prescription - but I doubt it because the NHS would probably not want the extra cost.

For preference I would advise a plant-based bland lotion if available, rather than a petroleum based one. E45 is petrochemical based, as are most cream bases.

Hello, folks, it's me again!

Thanks for all your postings; I was quite amazed to see how many people answered me and made suggestions!

Well, to start with: my appointment at the homeopath has been a disappointment; she is "only" an MD working with homeopathy among other things, like acupuncture... This was definitely not what I was looking for. Anyway, she was very honest and frank and told me rightaway that she would not think she could give us the treatment we were looking for and suggested another "real", classical homeopath. Unfortunately, that one is severely ill at the moment and will not be able to open her consultation again until the end of february. I do not want to wait that long!

It really is quite difficult to find a good, experienced, classical homeopath here (in Freiburg, Germany) who is still able and willing to see new patients. After consulting several other "fully occupied" homeopaths, I finally found a classical one who at least sounded very nice to me on the telephone and seems to work properly (classical one-remedy-homeopathy, history-taking of more than an hour's length, etc.). I have an appointment with her on next Monday. Well, we'll see what she is like...

Concerning your other suggestions, we've already found a cream that works quite well for her, it is called Unguentum leniens. It is a paraffine based cream, but I have got the impression that her skin tolerates those creams better than the lanoline-based ones. Of course it does not stop the inflammation.

About the dairy thing: We let her have an allergy testing (RAST), and she does not seem to be allergic to cow milk, egg yolk, wheat, dust mites, mould, dog's or cat's hair, fish, nuts, etc... The only found a slightly increased IgE level, that is all. So we do not yet know if she is allergic at all and to what she reacts.

I'll post again here when there is something new to tell.

Greetings

Mottemama

Thanks for the information Anna. I don't know whether you have heard of a new cream called PS98 but I have 2 patients who think it is marvellous. One has rosacea and with constant use her skin is becoming less dry and another who uses it on her psoriasis when it comes up. It is full of "Herbals and Vitamins" but also "emollients" such as Liquid parafin and preservatives!! "Contains no steroids or coal tar " It is being marketed from Germany by Pharmavita. They have a co.uk website.
