Hello Guys,

A quick question...

I have been doing some investigating and found a home study course that offers joint certification of a CHOM or DHOM from Robin Murphy and Lawrence Galante and am very interested? Just wondering what you think - Keep in mind that I am studying to become a professional homeopath not just for personal reasons and need to have the proper knowledge and certification.

Divina, i would love your input on this since, as you know, I am currently at the Toronto chool and of course my counselor is the person you said to avoid - and much of the coursework I have gotten so fay seems to be a lot of busy work. I am not thrilled with the classes.

Any input is most welcomed,
Barb

My sympathies, Barb, I've had the misfortune, believe me...

But enough about me...Could you describe a little more about what is on the Murphy course? I know he is affiliated with the Hahnemann school on the West coast and the course there is geared towards instructing medical professionals to specialize in homeopathy. I've heard very good things about Murphy from people who've studied with him and I quite like my own homeopath who studied with him years ago.

Do you have any idea of a course outline (curriculum, texts used, objectives?) Is there a web-site with information? Snoop has the tapes with his lectures, but I'm not sure if she's taken this course in particular. Perhaps she can fill you in on good points...

Truly sorry to hear you're unhappy at TSHM. Wish things had changed for the better there...

Dear Divina and Barb,

Robin isn't with the Hahnemann College. That's Roger Morrison's and Nancy Herrick's school. Robin has his own college: The Hahnemann Academy of North America. Barb, can you tell us about his diploma course and where you heard about it? Yes, I have all his seminars on tape, and they're available at Minimum.com. I've been in person to a seminar he gave in Philadelphia on Materia Medica. He moves around a lot. The last I heard, he had set up his school in Georgia; but he may have a home study course. If you have any info on that, let us know. Are you stuck in the Toronto school forever? Can you get your money back?

Yes, Snoop's right about the Hahnemann Academy--I believe it is in Portland,Oregon, but I think enrollment is still limited to medical professionals--chiros, nurses, doctors, osteos and NDs. That would be worth double-checking. If a correspondence version is available, it might be a good way for you to train. Professional certification comes AFTER you've done your schooling--via the CHE. You can only get this certification via practice, as you have to present cured (or progression to cure) cases, and they have to have been monitored for a number of specified years.

If you would like to find out exactly what is necessary for certification in NA, check out the CHC's site--the Council for Homeopathic Certification. Go to www.chedu.org for more information about exams, procedures and requirements. Believe it or not, TSHM does meet them--on paper, really--but to do well and to be good at this you'll need REAL training that challenges you and stimulates you to learn. See if you can get a refund (though they are never good about this stuff, that's my experience) and if you can't, supplement their requirements with your own studies at a better school until you can end your relationship with them. Its what I did!
Neverthless, good luck in getting something refunded for your efforts there. I'm truly saddened to learn its still the same-old same old...

First let me say thanks for being so helpful, I do appreciate it. The site I found this course offered on is http://www.holistic-arts.com/ht/homeopathy.html

I can get part of my money back from Toronto and don't mind "eating" the rest if I benifit in the long run with better knowledge.

I have ordered one of Murphy's tapes from minimum so I can get an idea of his lectures and teaching before I commit to this new program.

I'd love your opinions on that web site though.

thanks again,
Barb

Hi Barb,

I like the curriculum...but you'll need to find training in pathology and a place to do the clinic hours requirement. Are you all alone in your studies? Is there anyone you know nearby who is also studying homeopathy, and can form a study group with you? This is a really good way to enhance your studies, too. Still waiting for Snoopy's opinion on Robin Murphy's teaching style....

Divina,

I am taking pathology at Toronto and actually studied quite a bit of anatomy and physiology before. I am alone in my studies but am hopeful to find a "mentor" in my area to gain clinical experience with later on. I wish I had the freedom to train at a school in a classroom setting, but alas, my little ones come first - as they should.

Dear Barb,

Thanks for the web site! Which tape set by Robin Murphy did you order? In terms of what he's like as a teacher, let me put it this way; the reason I have all his tapes is because every time one came to an end, I felt deprived and had to order "just one more"!

Talk to you soon,

Snoopy

Dear Barb
I too had a not so good experience with TSHM - namely one instructor.
I am taking my course through the school of homeopathy in England.

http://www.homeopathyschool.com/

There are also correspondence courses through the Desert Institute of Classical Homeopathy in AZ - Todd Rowe is the director and he is phenomenal. He is my supervising physician when I see pt.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely, Lynn
