PS...perhaps do a search on the web and look up Kidney sites - or the word Nephorology. Not Urinary - as the Nephrology is more specialised..

I'll have a look and see what I find to confirm this...and post later if any success!
Lisa

Okay, I found this info as it relates to ACUTE kidney infection (as opposed my chronic situation) - so I stand corrected - but still would not advise too high a dose, or if you've had kidney infections before - then I would not go the acute route.

"Diet
No special diet. Drink at least 2 quarts of liquid daily; include cranberry juice or vitamin C to acidify the urine."

Also, I beg to differ, strongly on the No Special Diet - as it is proven that a diet high in complex carbs, low fats - helps put less stress on kidneys! (The volume of liquids is also higher than my neprhologist recommended, but then this was listed for ACUTE, so perhaps it is different than in chronic disease).

If I find anything else, I'll post later .

Dear Lisa~Annan,

As a kidney expert, are you familiar with diabetic nephropathy (kidney damage from diabetes)? I need to know the nature of the kind of damage that occurs to the kidneys so that I'll know which remedies to consider in treating it. Perhaps your nephrologist can explain. I've heard "scarring", I've also heard, "hardening of the arteries" of the kidneys. Thanks for your help.

Hi- I've been researching this further...and Vit C (by nephrologists! not urologists!) say that Vit C is NOT GOOD in kidney infections....

Sorry to back track...as I had found that 'diet' info on a Kidney website - but what I was acutally looking for was a Nephrology website..and with all our family stuff going on with my inlaws, I never completed my search.

So, the bottom line - and I'm sticking to my original advice based on Dr Melton and many other nephrologists - that Vit C is indeed Contraindicated....

this was a little lesson for me...to learn that not all websites are accurate!

Sorry for all the confusion Parvati.

Snoops, I'm no expert, but just have had so many problems since a young age..and when one has this type of chronic ailment, they learn at a young age to modify what needs to be modified in order to maintain themselves. I was NEVER allowed to take Vit C supplements until i got pregnant..and only under the advice of my nephrologist (doc Melton ..he was fabulous!).

I'll research this more, went I return from Zimbabwe, Snoop cuz I have to focus now on preparing to leave in 7 days time (sorry ). Although, I'm sure others here might know about the pathology...as it relates to Diabetes...but I do recall an article today..hmm, I'll have a wee look just now..and post if I find it .

Lisa
