Hi C,

The asthma IS a chronic condition, not an acute. I'm curious about the Rhus tox as I couldn't find the rubric Anna suggested, either. Anna, do you know the source of that rubric off-hand?

The bruising on the legs is interesting--my mother has the same thing and has responded well to lachesis. Lachesis also has plenty of asthma symptoms...and circulation/brui- sing issues. Hhmmm...He could also be a candidate for some arsenicum, another big remedy for asthma...

Many remedies could apply in your husband's case, so you really do have to go out and have a full case taken, particularly if he is already reticent (I mean, why not do it properly, if he decides he's going to undergo treatment?). Hope he is as inspired by Will's writing enough to try homeopathy out.

I had asthma for 30 years, and Homoeopathy was the only thing that ever helped. I now experience only brief episodes of it when the weather changes, usually disapated with my current remedy.

The remedies which really helped me when it was bad were Calc and Tub. But it took almost 2 years to finally let go of my ventolin inhaler, but then I did have it for most of my life.

Well, that is very good news. Thanks for letting me know -- I will pass it on to my husband along with all the other heaps of propaganda.

One comment he made after reading an article I recommended was, "Why does homeopathy have such an us against them mentality? I can accept the theoretical basis for homeopathy, but why do they have to trash allopathy so hard?". And this left me thinking. I mean, certainly I have adopted the whole homeopathic mindset, but I wonder why homeopathy is so... exclusive. Any thoughts?

I would just hazard a guess or two here:

1. Hahnemann himself was a brilliant man, who was well known for so many accomplishments. As a doctor, he decided he could no longer practice the allopathic medicine of his time because he understood how suppressive and dangerous it was. Because of his writings and his discovery of homeopathy, he was vilified by the allopathic doctors of the time. There is consequently much anger and bitterness in his work when describing allopathic medicine's dangerous shortcomings. This inadvertent "literary tradition" can sometimes be spotted in the written work of modern-day doctors who were at one point at the top of their professions in their chosen medical specialty; that is because they too, like Hahnemann, have been vilified by their modern day colleagues, the allopathic doctors who call alternative therapies "quackery" (yet practice a medicine which, by their own study, observations, and admission, kills about 300,000 patients a year in the US alone).

2. For practical reasons: The suppressive nature of allopathic medicine STILL gets in the way of cure for so many people. Allopathic "cure" equals successful suppression of the symptoms and of the disease: for homeopaths, this is not the definition of cure, but of failure to cure. Homeopaths know the disease will only get worse as a result of suppression; allopaths believe the suppression is the goal of treatment.

So you can see how both types of medicine would seem mutually exclusive.

The reality is that allopathic medicine's advancements (all technical, really, in that we now how niftier diagnostic tools) have helped us as homeopaths somewhat. We can use these technological advancements to our benefit in understanding the fine points of differences between, say, the way a virus acts in the body and the way a bacteria acts in the body--because this will help us select a better remedy for our patient. And, of course, now that modern medicine has figured out that bacteria and viruses are not the scourge of all humanity and has looked at a new area to "blame", we can all gain a greater understanding of how genes influence physical development and disease as well. Good to know, as a homeopath, to help you understand the whole picture of the patient in better way.

I developed asthma several years ago after never fully recovering from a cold. I think it was also around the time I got pets. I was pretty severe for awhile, cold, humidity, food and emotions would trigger off attacks. I ended up in the hospital twice when my inhalers failed to help.
In my own research several things helped "cure" my attacks. I dont get them if I maintain a good diet and exercise.
I avoided dairy, sugar, white flour products and that reduced many attacks. The emphasize on whole grains, veggies and diary free diet really adds up. There was a point that I couldnt even eat a sliver of cheese. Also eating to ease digestion is helpful too. I suggest Eating Alive by Dr Jonn Matsen.

I also started doing yoga which helps great in teaching you to concentrate on your breath and the control of. Hatha is good to start with as its gentle and not too frightening to the newbie. You can check the Yoga Journal site for teachers in your area. Eventually I loved it so much I graduated to Ashtanga (the one Sting does) and then to Hot yoga which is done in a 40c humid room!! Brutal but so cathartic. And if the diet change is too much, eventually with the yoga I didnt want to eat heavy greasy food as I became more aware of my body and didnt want to burden it with hard digestion.
And I never had to give my dog away despite what the experts said.

I have marked many Asthma cases aggravate as per the transit of Moon.If it will be noted down on which moon days its aggravating and if less water in take is practiced on those days especially in night there will be some control of Asthmatic attacks.Another thing I always advise my patients not to take the food which they like most to get relief from most of the diseases.Cause my experience taught me that a person always like the food much, which helps the disease within to continue or develop. For example:- A gastritis patient always likes fried/junk food/nonveg/more chilli/milk etc. which helps the disease.(its my own opinion from my experience)If we can observe the patients liking and desire of food it will be clear.

Siting here a case:
-woman aged 46
-periodic menorrhagia- more flow at night
-leucorrhoea in other days and more in night
-incontinence of urine
-dribbing urine at sneezing,coughing/laughing loudly
-morning hoarseness, aphonia, cough, relieved by drinking water
-averrsion to sweets
-left sided sciatica.worse from cold and coughing, amml from warmth.
-marked a big wart on the eye-brow

I selected Causticum as her remedy and gave her one dose 30c and after a week repeated as marked progress a dose every week,She expressed her satisfaction about other sufferings except the wart and left side sciatica pain.
Advised her to make sonograph to confirm about the uterus and ovary, every thing was normal. But the patient frequently complained about heavy bleeding on some days in a week.

All my remedies selection was fruitless. I coudn't gave any relief to her although I selected the proper remedy and provided her with the constitutional remedy a dose every fortnight.

One day I thought to study the case again and go on reading the patient note book,in which i used to note the food taken, works done etc in detail every time she visited me.
Atlast I was amazed to note that whenever she takes eggs the next day bleeding starts. I found that egg is her favourite and she likes eggs boiled rather then in any form.

I advised her not to take eggs for some time and noted that the complain become less. Finally she promised not to take eggs when I gave her Last dose of Causticum-200 a dose.

The lady never visited since that day and whenever she passes nearby never forgets to say me Hello!.
