I am going to my GP tomorrow and would value advice as to what questions I need to ask, and what tests might be appropriate.
The symptoms are as follows: Started in the spring of this year. Acute episodes of pain focussed on the area of the xyphoid section of the sternum, extending to the thoracic spine at a point where I have scoliosis. The pain usually follows a few days of spinal discomfort in the affected area. It usaully comes on at night [once at 5am]. The onset is about half an hour, and there are loose stools and increasing pain in that time, resulting, I think, from the involvement of abdominal muscles attached to the xyphoid process. Once the pain is fully developed it is like a deep ache of the most intense pain I have experienced, and it causes restlessness with no amelioration modalities. Except on one occassion the pain has lasted for about an hour and has then disappeared suddenly, within a few minutes. If anyone has an idea what this could indicate, and what checks are necessary, please reply. Thanks, Anna |

Definately check into possibility of referred pain like ulcers etc...
Also, my own spine is out in thoracic area and I would get awful heartburn etc. Body sure can be funny about where it manifests its pain from inner organs. My appendix pain was felt just under the ribs/center....under the xiphoid!!! Zmyst |

Hi Anna
Things that come to mind for me are- ? hiatus hernia ? ulcer- gastric if worse after eating- duodenal if better after eating. Also ? gall stones. Hope it is none of these and you are soon better |

Thanks so much. It cheered me up a lot to see your kind and helpful messages.
I wasn't brave enough to see the GP today, but I went to an osteopath who said I should...so no escape. I am in poor shape apparently. ![]() High bp, high pulse, enlarged spleen, generalised lymphadenopahthy ![]() Not the best advert for homoeopathy. I suppose I could turn into a round-the-world yachtswoman one of these days... The pain bears no relation to eating/fats, so I think it's not an ulcer or gallstone. Not sure about hernia. The modalities are indicative of Belladonna, so I wonder about Zmyst's suggestion of appendicitis. Hmmm. Did that pain go right through to the spine from the xiphoid area Zmyst? There is no fever though, so could it still be appendicitis? Thanks again to everyone who has been kind and helpful. A |

Anna,
Just want to wish you well. Along the lines of Lisa's post, could this be remedy related? Proving? I noticed in a post of yours in the miasm forum you mentioned you've been a guinea pig for some things. |

Thanks also Lisa and Barb
Lisa, I did take several doses of NM LM for the acute throat infection, and it has subsided considerably. I had a return of the acute xiphoid paid once the throat pain subsided. It is normal for the chronic picture to be at its strongest at the close of an acute, so it is indeed a resurfacing of the chronic. Barb, my case is a cautionary tale regarding the use of high potencies, and too many remedies. I have experimented on myself far too much with remedies and over the years several homoeopaths have also put many remedies into me with little overall success. I started homoepathy in a bad condition, and I'm still there. The good news is that despite being ill oneself, it doesn't impair ones ability to prescribe for others who are already in better health, except in terms of time and energy. Only this spring did I take a centessimal exceeding 1M and that coincided with the onset of this xiphoid pain, so I wonder if it is related to the high potencies I have tried since then. |
