Question

Is Grapeseed extract an alternative to prescribed medications in dealing with ADD/ADHD?

According to Jean Carpers book, Miracle Cures, Grape seed extract was found to be useful in treating ADD or ADHD. In her book, at least one study found that it worked just as well as Ritalin on 30 children and adults diagnosed with ADD. You might be able to get more info on a herbal web site regarding this as opposed to a homeopathy one.

It all goes back to suseptibility - don't forget that . I'll bet that some of her patients did not respond -and she probably scratches her head on those who didn't.

Remember, Homeopathy treats individual patients on the totality of that patient's symptoms.....it can be misleading to say that ONE thing will help everyone - it's not that simple - but hey, the person you are thinking of, just might be one of those who responds to it.

But, if you want more in depth help, post the case here, and I'm sure one of the Homeopaths will help you sort the case out.

YEP Lisa! My son didn't respond to Grape-seed extract or Picnogenol.
That is the basis of Homeopathy NO? THat every one is individual and responds individually.
Suppose it doesn't hurt to try an anti-oxidant though.
Good luck to the questioner

I never heard about those supplements for ADHD. My daughter as ADHD and if anyone hears of anything that might work to go along with the homeopathy let me know please. Im still waiting for her remedy so Im trying that first. But exactly what makes the grape seed so effective, how does it work? Thank you, LindaM.

Dear Linda,
Any substance that works for a particular individual....well - in Homeopathic thinking -it's sort of like this:

Think of the substance as having a certain characteristic (resonance perhaps) and now add the individual - if they are resonating the same characteristic - WA LA - like cures like. If you try to look at it from merely the physical aspect (allopathic thinking....what chemically happens....mathematically what changes, blah blah blah) then you find that some substances work and some don't for any given individual.
This is what baffles conventional medicine.
This is the "BING" - the moment you 'get' Homeopathy if you can grasp this concept.(I'm sure you will!! ).

Of course, this is probably over simplified -but it will at least get you thinking. There is a lot more to it.

Hope this helps. Lisa

Oh, I was thinking it was prescribed allopathically, I didnt know there was a homeopathic remedy of grapeseed. I dont know if my Boerickes has it. I only have a few books now, but I dont plan on being a homeopath, I just love studying it as a hobby I suppose and to help my family.Unforunately my daughter takes Adderall and every time I take her off it she does something harmful or dangerous again, but I cant watch her every move as I have 2 others at home to watch also.Well Im sure I can say I know how you all feel. LindaM.

From what I had learned when I tried it with my son, is that Pycnogenol and Grape-Seed extract....etc..... Are anti-oxidants. In other words, they help protect the body from free radicals. (supposedly more so than vitamins like A and E). It is believed that some people may experience more damage to their systems, (in regards to ADHD---the nervous system) from the bombardment of free-radicals. My 73 year old mother is taking it, and nearly all her flat warts have disappeared. So it probably works on some people, for some things, just like Lisa said. And it is more in the lines of Naturopathic/Herbal type of treatment rather than Homeopathic.
Hope this helps.
Maybe I didn't give the Grape-seed enough of a chance, but my son takes so many pills already, that I just hate shoving more at him on a regular basis.

Sorry Linda, I did not mean to imply that Grapeseed extract is available in Homeopathic form....I do not know if it is or not. I'm afraid I don't have any spare time at the moment to check this either...sorry.

Regardless if it is in Homeopathic preparation, or not - it will only work on those who would produce symptoms that Grapeseed would produce - like cures like.

Better to get a book that talks about the Priniciples of Homeopathy - this will help you to gain a better udnerstanding of how healing is approached.

I just saw a Rueters news item that Dr.s found in 1/3 their ADHD patients had Convergence Insufficiency where its an eye disorder with the inability to keep both eyes focused on a close target. This might turn into a big thing now. I dont know. LindaM.
