Hi

I'm visisting my sister for the holidays and most of the children have fallen ill. We reached just yesterday and I'm sure my two daughters will be next.

It seems to be a upper respiratory infection. Four days after being exposed they come down with a very bad cough which generally leads to vomitting and then comes the very high fever which doesn't go down with motrim.

My younger one is just seven months and I'm waiting for the holidays to be over to give sulp 200 per GMs instructions. My older also has eczema and she also is to be given sulp 200c after the holidays. The younger one still has a cold with a blocked nose.

If they get the infection from their cousins, what can I give them? I'd prefer not to give them motrin. I have brough all the homeo remedies I have.

Since this is an acute condition, I'm not sure what all details are necessary. Please help

Sarah

In the UK there is a system called the homoeopathy helpline which is for patients to use out of hours for homoeopathic acutes. The man who runs it gets to know what are the genus epidemicus of the remedies going around. If you have such a service in the States, you could try phoning that for the genus epidemicus remedies, and then if your kids go down with it, choose from one of those remedies.

In the meantime, it is almost impossible to say what remedy might be needed in case, because the homoeopathic prescription depends on individual characteristic symptoms, not generals.

Sorry not to be of more help.

Perhaps GM can advise more usefully since he knows the case histories.

Hi

Thank you, but I don't know of any such helpline in the US.

Now the adults are also started falling sick. All of them have the same problem, it also starts with a sore throat and a bad hacking cough with very thick flem which leads to vomitting, about 12 hours later comes the high fever.

I have belladonna with me, can I use belladonna 30c or something instead of motrin? I don't know how exactly homeopathy works for acute conditions, so forgive me if I'm not talking sense. My older daughter used to get the flushed cheeks etc with high fever and belladonna used to work for her. Pulsatilla has also worked when she had fever. I don't know when one is indicated over the other.

Is there something like coffea cruda 12c at the first sign of flu for cases like this

Please help
Sarah
Thank you

Hi Sara

I was hoping someone would post the GE remedies for this year's round of flu/urti ailments, from that hotline in Britain. The GE remedies will be the same here in NA as they are in Europe, so it would really be helpful.

Some have already been discussed on the BB--take a look at Lisa007's strep throat postings and the use of Nat Mur as a quick solution. Natrum Muriaticum is coming up again and again this year, for sore throats flus which have plenty of clear coryza (nasal discharge) and sneezing. But not everyone's flu is the same--so I recommend you take a look at David Little's website at:

www.simillimum.com

and go into the "First Aid Room" heading where you can look up some tried and true standard flu remedies which have always been necessary in every flu epidemic. There you'll get some clear descriptions of the different symptoms in each remedy. That will help you determine which one will suit each of your children and your relatives.

Hope it helps,
Divina

Hi Divina:

Thanks for sharing this site with others. I quickly glanced at the site & feel this should be an excellent source to enhance homeopathic knowledge as well as a good source on remedies to be used in acute cases.

Thanks Again,
Rajan

Sounds like Ipec would be helpful - do you have your MM with you? I suggest you read it up.

don't think it's ipecac because that doesn't cover the thick phlegm that seems to be a major problem with this one.

Question

Give some more info about the complaints:

what mental state accompanies the onset?

what is the weather like where you are? temp/wind?

which side of the throat does the soreness start? where is it sore? what does the throat look like? does pain extend - eg to ears? on swallowing? on eating/ drinking?

any increase/ decrease in thirst. any food cravings or drink cravings?

what is mucus like? colour, stringy? lumpy?

is vomiting of mucus or of stomach contents?

is vomiting from stomach or from gagging from the throat mucus?

what symptoms accompany the fever? thirst, chill, aches and pains?

any other characteristics of the complaints you can think of?

Hi,

My two kids have not fallen ill yet. I'm giving the symtomes of the children who are ill (their parents don't believe in homeopathy so I don't think they'll be taking the remedies, I'm am asking for something for my children either as a preventive measure / or when they fall ill, so that I can dose them at the first sign of illness).

The first sign of illness is lack of interest in playing (they are 7 children age seven and under). They are quiet, weepy (no loud crying, maybe because of the sore throat). The either sit quietly or cling to the parents.

It is pretty cold (30s) here. The first one got sick while in warm california, but the rest(including his sister) fell ill after 4 days of his arrival, the morning after they had gone out in the cold for christmas service.

The throat pain is in the middle (near the indentation of throat). There is no visible signs of redness (maybe mild redness). There is no pain anywhere else. No pain on swallowing eating/drinking. It pains when they cough. They do feel thirsty. No particular cravings (they are only given warm drinks).

I haven't seen the mucus that has been vomitted out, but they are having thin runny clear nasal discharge which sometimes thick and yellowish.

vomitting is of the mucus and stomach contents, the vomitting is from coughing which brings out the mucus and stomach contents.

There is very high fever, no chills, the children are very quiet almost comatose.

I came after the major onset went down, so I really don't have too much details and there is not much support for homeopathy, so not much information either.

I'm sorry, there is not much to work with. If this is difficult, I can post with more specific details if/when they fall ill
Thank you
Sarah

In the meantime, do what you can to maintain their "vital force". Good food (for you as well since you are bf), rest, minimum sugar, etc.
