In classical homoeopathy remedies aren't prescribed while a patient is taking orthodox medication because firstly, the orthodox medicines will have changed the symptoms, so the homoeopath won't get a true picture of the case, and secondly, because orthodox medicine acts as a suppressive force on the person's vitality which will be opposite to the force of the remedy which works to strengthen the vitality.
All of your daughter's symptoms: the OCD, the stress, the hopelessness and the acne, are part of her whole state, along with any other symptoms that are currently being masked by the orthodox medication. A homoeopath needs to see the whole natural state of the person to find the one homoeopathic remedy that matches her whole suffering. It doesn't work by treating parts of the case, like the stress, separately. If her acne has been suppressed for example, she might have to allow it to come back for a while so that it can be cured properly, but many patients aren't prepared to endure that. She may also find that when her skin symptoms are allowed to be expressed, her mental state is partly ameliorated. You can read more about this in Kent's Lectures on Homoeopathic Philosophy by Dr. James Tyler Kent (Pub. in cheap paperback by Thorsons). |

Hi Mselle - I live in Massachusetts and know where Cambridge is - It's a long way from Long Island, NY.............Have you gone to a big health store and inquired? You are lucky that you live in a very large section of the state and I think (unless this Homeopath is someone special) you might be able to find someone alot closer. In my post to you I stated that, if you were in doubt about the advice you recieved from the Homeopath you decide to visit you could "double check" here on the BB about that advice. No matter what kind of Doctors we've all visited - sometimes we might not be sure what they tell us is the best advice and alot seek a second and, maybe, a third opinion. I did not mean that comment to suggest that you should overrride what your Homeopath tells you what to do........only that if you don't feel comfortable about the remedy or treatment, ask advice......There are countries where Homeopathy is THE method of treatment.....in the USA there are alot who claim to be Homeopaths and have only gotten into it recently and are not experienced. I realy don't know what the credentials are and I really don't know what to look for when I "look on the wall at their diploma's) You are smart to ask if others know of a good Homeopath in the area. Like anything, good service, products, care, etc... is usually passed on through word of mouth. Good luck in your quest!

Esther & Mselle,
Read Prozac-Free kids by Dr. Robert Ullman & Dr. Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman, both practicing Homeopaths. They specialize in treating the "mental/emotional disorders". You can call them at 425-774-5599 or check their website: http://www.healthyhomeopathy.com/ They are wonderful, caring, experienced people and my son is being treated by Dr. Robert Ullman EMR [This message has been edited by EMR (edited 04 October 2000).] |

Dear Esther, yes GM has been helping me and my daughter. Allopathy will say the cause is a mixture of low seratonin levels and learned behavior. These are symptoms not causes. The cause is lack of a particular level of vital energy. It's a quantam physics phenomena which I am not prepared to explain. You will find that you don't need to understand the background of the disease. What's important is finding your particular remedy. Everyone is different and except for remedies specified for acute use, everyone's remedy will be matched to their own particular needs. The only thing I can advise you to do is to go for a constitutional remedy. While doing this, your homeopath may have to "peel away" layers of disease with other remedies, but what ever you do, follow the exact advice of your homeopath. Do not mix advise, only if your homeopath says it's ok. You must be prepared to be patient. It is a disease that takes a long time to cure. GM is excellent. Both my daughter and I have made terrific progress. You might also benefit from cognative behavioral therapy and assertiveness training. Usually persons with OCD suffer from low self esteem and depression. Such training will provide you with the "language" of the healthy individual. You will need to change your verbal responses to match your improved state of health. For example, if you have never returned a store purchase for fear of being ridiculed by the clerk, you will need to learn how to go about it. The remedy will give you the spark, but you still need to know how to state your case in conversation, etc. Good luck. Mselle
