Can someone suggest a remedy for my two year old son, Rory?

He has a bad cough and streaming nose. Started the night before last. Woke at 1 am, and spent maybe two hours half-awake, coughing, very phlegmy, loose, rattling in his chest, very restless, crying in his sleep. Gave him a dose of Chamomilla, and finally settled about 3.30 and slept a few hours, woke unhappy, very snotty. Improved as morning went on, quite cheerful, still coughing and snotty, worse after midday sleep. Pale, with dry red patches on cheeks, near corners of mouth, and on chin. Dirtied his nappy four times yesterday, which is unusual, but stools are normal. Was a bit subdued yesterday, but OK.

Last night, took a long time going to sleep. Woke two hours later (midnight) again half awake, coughing, crying in sleep, very restless. I eventually woke him up properly, and we watched some TV. Tried going back to sleep, but couldn't. Eventually I drove him round in the car and he went to sleep at four. Woke at seven, very miserable. Cough now dry, barking, harsh, very frequent. Nose runny, clear and thin, sometimes thicker yellow/green. Sneezing as well. Mood improving as the morning goes on, still coughing and nose running. Is now running around the house, a bit manic (bored? He usually has a lot of fun at school in the mornings).

Blond, quite solidly built. Usually he is very active, has a lot of energy, happy, friendly, talkative. Loves school, was never worried about being left there. Has had a lot of trouble with colds, catarrh, etc. When at school has an almost constantly runny nose, but usually keeps going, kind of determined to enjoy himself. Teething has been quite slow, and often accompanied by coughs and colds. (This one may be associated with the last back teeth coming through). Quite stubborn (getting him dressed, changing his nappy, going to bed can be difficult.)

What else? No vaccinations. Had chicken pox at 18 months. Ear infection, that burst and flowed, a couple of wrong remedies, then cleared over night with Calc. Sulph. Calc Carb (200 or 1M) has often worked with other problems like teeth and coughs - I don't know if this would still be good.

Food: likes pasta, potatoes, yoghurt, eggs, pumpkin seeds, nuts, juice, milk. Not particularly keen on sweets or icecream. Likes crisps.

Sleep: has trouble going to sleep, and usually wakes at least once in the night. Sleeps on front preferably I think, but also on back and sometimes with knees drawn up under him. Sometimes gets hot immediately after falling asleep, and sweats a lot on the head.

Would like to give him something to get him over this, but also to help him in the longer term. As I say this kind of thing is pretty constant.

Thank you for your help.

Toby.

Thank you GM. We'll get some this afternoon after he wakes up (Hurray, he's asleep!).

Cool

GM - Rory slept well and is much better today. Went to school and had a good time. Still coughing a bit (quite loose now) and nose a bit runny, but basically fine. So thanks for the remedy.

Would you expect this to clear up completely now? We have got used to accepting a 'low-level' cough/cold as a kind of fact of his life at the moment, associated with teething and being with lots of other snotty kids. Remedies have usually helped acute conditions but not done much for the underlying state. If you have time, I'd like to know what you think. Thanks again. Toby.

yes, i think it will clear out the most, but cant say if something will be left, we have to see after a month, it may be needed with one m, or a other remedie.
And, he is not to use coca colas, pepsi, coffe cause they contain acidum phos, and also not sugars. that blocks calcium absorbation. OK?

Dear GM - I know you said wait a month, but . . . Rory had a very restless night last night, tossing and turning in his sleep, woke up early and this morning is tired, miserable, and VERY snotty.

Last two days have been OK, but his teachers say he has been 'not himself' at school, and his nose has been running constantly. Yesterday I brought him home early and today he is certainly not well enough to go. The last two nights he slept well, although going to sleep takes a long time (1 - 2 hours).

Is there anything I can do now? Toby

Hi GM - Rory has had a loose cough and constant runny nose all the time since my last post (this seems to be his 'normal' state - he was like this before my first post). But now he has the same symptoms I originally posted - yesterday the cough became dry and barking. It woke him up last night and stopped him going back to sleep for three hours - every time he lay down he started coughing again. When he did go back to sleep he coughed and cried in his sleep. Today he is coughing a lot and his nose is very runny.

GM, the Calc Phos cleared the bad cough last time, but didn't seem to do anything for the underlying state (at least not after two weeks). Now he has the bad cough again. Is there anything we can do? Thanks - Toby
