My husband has a really bad case of psoriasis. He is 50 years old. It started at age 18 on his knees and elbows and has gotten progressively worse. He has patches which become raw and bleed all over except for his face. The affected areas shed large flakes of skin. It's better in the warm moist weather and worse in the winter because it cracks and bleeds. He's likes the fall season the best. He loves hot, spicy foods. He also likes salads with a lot of vinegar. He's about 25 lbs overweight after giving up smoking about 9 years ago. His family has a history of eczema and one brother has crohn's disease. He is half Italian and has olive colored skin. He drinks a few beers or scotch daily. He's short tempered and over reacts very easily. Has very little patience. Sometimes his blood pressure reads high when tested. He hates to sit still and usually likes to stand or walk around at social functions. Has to have the window and ceiling fan on at home; usually feels that it is too stuffy. He mentions no fears. A couple of years ago the homeopath treated him with sulfur and nux vomica. It showed some results initially but then wore off. We would truly appreciate all suggestions.

Best regards,
Sue K

Dear Sue,

can we have some history from your husband? Something about his childhood, his parents, his career, his biggest trauma, his fears.

I've asked him about fears and trauma and he said he has none. He' the second of 5 children. He says that both his parents worked when they were children and that his father would yell and threaten when the children were mischievious but would never harm them. He has very fond memories of his childhood as he talks of family gatherings and neighborhood friendships. He went to parochial school and a highschool tradeschool as a machinist. He didn't like having a job as a machinist because he was inside and didn't like being cooped up. He then got a job in the trades union as a laborer/carpenter because he wanted to be outdoors. He likes his free time and is currenlty a self employed carpenter which he's been for the last 25 years. He says he likes to create his own schedules. He belongs to a local club which he holds the presidential position. He likes to be in charge and organize things. He likes the company of his friends. He's very creative and does great work. When he was 23, his father died at age 54 of a blood disease which doctors failed to detect early. He doesn't trust doctors because of this and hates to go. He's had a few close friends that have died, over the years whom he misses but doesn't talk about much. He doesn't talk about his feelings but when he's annoyed be blows up and yells but calms down right after the issue is resolved. He's been very healthy over the years outside of the psoriasis. The other homeopath said that it is very hard to cure. He went on a stict high protein, low carb diet about 10 years ago and it cleared almost completely. He's tried ultraviolet light therapy from the dermatologist many years ago which cleared it for a while also. He didn't want to return to the homeopath because he said they would talk about the same things over and over and there were no results from the remedies.
If there is anything else that would specifically help, let us know.

Thanks so much!

Sounds like Nux to me but yu said he has tried that. What reaction did he have from the Nux and what potency was he given? What happens when he finds himself in a queue?

From what I remember, he started him with 30C, he felt improvement for a couple of days, when he repeated it there was no change. Then he raised it to 200C which caused an aggravation and then stopped.

If he's in a queue and it's not moving fast enough he will get out. If it's one that he must stay in and it's slow he will complain.

Hope that helps.

Thank you,
Sue K

Your reply would indicate Nux to me. Maybe try 1M as it is a gentler potency than 200. After the agg with the 200 did he improve?

Ricky,
No, he didn't improve after the aggravation.

GM,
He said that the patches first started on his knees. Would Berberis still be considered? If so, which one? I'm not sure if this is significant but when he was in his late teens and early 20's he had a few episodes of gout. Recently, he had been getting headaches when he wakes up. If we try the remdies you suggest which potentcy should we start with?

Best regards,
Sue K
