Question

My partner is 34 years old and is loosing hair at quite a substantial rate. it is mainly from his crown to his forehead it is thin, he has oily skin although it looks a little dehydrated. He has some form of dry itchy scaly excema which is prominant on his head and on local parts of his body.

I've only seen alopecia cured twice and both times it was with a constitutional remedy - taking the whole case, not treating the alopecia seperately. I recently had a patient with what seemed to be the beginning of alopecia on the crown of his head with dry scabby eczma, which cleared on Kali-phos. He had a huge fear of having a breakdown (and I think was heading for one).

I have a case at the moment who is doing well on Baryta Carb. as a constitutional. However my patient is age 15. What your partner has got is more likely to be male pattern baldness which is genetic. If he is Mr Nux Vom look at Lycopodium which is easily mistaken for Nux Vom and is strongly indicated in alopecia.

Thank you Djkempson and Ricky Mr Nux Vom is indicated in all Lyc sx except for the GIT. I may give him a dose of lyc and wait to see what happens. I am thinking of a 200 any comments. He has not responded to any rx below this.

What is the GIT? I suggest potency 1M one dose, as it is gentler and longer acting than 200.

Alopecia is different than male pattern baldness
sounds more like the second.
alopecia is usually seen on the scalp in small circuler shiny spots one or more of them.(syphlitic miasm)
or can be entire head.
, totally bald happens quickly from some trauma
male pattern baldness is totally a different problem sugest constitutional remedie

I am presuming that CM thinks that Lycopodium does fit his constitution. I agree with all you say about the alopecia.

Does Mr Nux Vom not have any GIT at all? Flatulence etc? Constitutional and layer prescribing is much the same to me. i prescribe for what is on top, the symptoms that the patient presents with. I combine this with the mental and emotional. On occasions the M & E are so strong I prescribe on those and lo and behold the physical symptoms go although they might not have been found in the rep. Incidently I often find the physicals I am looking for in Clarke's MM although they are not in the rep.so if you have a feeling for a remedy search Clarke and see if the physicals are there.
