One of my son’s, who is 20 years old, has had blood in his stool which I found out has been occurring for the past 4 weeks. He said that he had a bowel movement once a day which is loose. He said there is no irritation anywhere and no constipation. He has had leakage onto his outerwear which he was unaware of. I will make an appointment with an internist this week but would like to see if homeopathy could help before we get into any allopathic treatment.
He is about 5’9”, small frame. He has a good appetite, loves chocolate, watermelon, bananas and grapes. He likes the fall season and has no complaints. He has had glasses since age 12. He used to get bloody noses every 2 weeks but has not had that in about 4 months. He likes to stay up late and sleep late in the morning. He has been away at college until 2 weeks ago. He went to the homeopath about 1-2 years ago for periodic pimples on his face which the homeopath prescribed sulfur. He would take sulfur 30 as eruptions occurred every few weeks. He had an ingrown toenail about 4 months ago which was cut out and treated by a surgeon. The other toe looks irritated but does not hurt. His fathers side of the family has a history of eczema, his father has psoriasis very badly and one uncle has Crohns disease. Do you think that acidopholus or yogurt would help? I would really appreciate any thoughts on this matter. I am very worried. Best regards, Sue K |

This is important to note for your son. Is there bright red blood in the toilet after he has a bowel movement? If there is, it is usually a hemmoroid. You can have internal hemmoroids and not be aware of it. Internal hemmoroids will burst or leak during a bowel movement and sometimes cause internal itching and bleeding. They can also "leak" onto clothing after the bowel movement with no pain or awareness. A barium enema (not as bad as it sounds) will rule out polyps and abnormalties. This is not an "invasive" (depending how you look upon it) procedure and does not require any drugs. Your son is only 20, but if there is any family history of bowel problems, I'd recommend the procedure.

My son was examined today and the doctor said he has a hemmoroid. He gave him a prescription for suppositories to be taken twice a day. He said if it doesn't clear up in a week to come back.
What do the suppositories do? (he didn't ask the doctor any questions) Should he change his diet? What are they caused from? GM - should he see a chiropractor? Is the ankle pressure exercise a type of chiropractic treatment? I truly appreciate your responses. Sue K |

Dear GM,
Thank you for your response. I am going to make an appointment with a chiropractor for him. You mentioned that it could possibly be from an infection. Because he was away at college and the living arrangement are so close could he have contacted something from there? If so, would the treatment still be the same? He's used the suppositories for 2 days that were prescribed by the doctor and there has been no change. Should he continue with those in addition to chiropractic? Best regards, Sue K |

My son has had 4 adjustments to his back, he started having headaches and feeling lousy all over, the blood in his stool has not stopped. He doesn't want to continue because he feels worse. I failed to mention in his above profile that he has had re-occurring bloody noses for the past few years. Is this significant? He has been very healthy until the start of these hemerroids. Best regards, Sue K |

Dear GM,
When I spoke to the chiropractor he said that his lower back was very tight and was surprised that he didn't have a back ache. When he was told about the hemorrhoid he said that his alignment could be the problem. Also, my son was in a car accident a couple of years ago. The chiropractor said he wanted to do 3 adjustments per week for the next 2 weeks and re-evaluate then. When my son went in today comlaining about his neck he worked on that also. My son today said that the blood has lessened but now he's constipated. Tonight, he has a fever of 102 and is achey. Now we can't tell if he's coming down with some kind of a bug or if any of it is from the adjustments. He's suppose to have another adjustment on Friday. I guess we'll have to see what happens next?? Best regards Sue K |

This has been a really helpful thread. Having some problems with constipation and haemmhoroiods myself at the moment - have seen my homeopath with some improvement from the remedy she prescribed.
I occasionaly see someone for shiatsu massage, which would you recommend GM, acupressure of chiropracor? Happy with my shiatsu practioner but don't know any local chiropracters. (If anyone can recommend someone in the Milton Keynes area I would be grateful, I always prefer a personal recommendation) Thanks Janyce ![]() [This message has been edited by janyce (edited 13 July 2000).] |
