Hi gang. This is one I am not looking forward to... I have a major, pronounced fear of the denitist, and living on my own for the past decade has afforded me the luxury of not going, since I've had no parents to force me to go.

Now, ten years later I have a lot of pain in two teeth and can't eat on one side, so I have no choice. I'm going Thursday. But I am scared to all hell about it... my pain tolerance is minimal when it comes to the drill. Just the sound sends me into a panic. Not just that but my dentist as a child had the bedside manner of Josef Mengele. But I can't ignore it any longer and have to go...

Locke & Geddies say in their book to take Aconite prior to treatment. Any second opinions? What should I take post-treatment, Arnica and Hypericum?

All help is appreciated.

Don't you want a few more details?

Pain on right side, top and bottom. I can even feel it when exerting myself during weight lifting or bending forward.

If I suck in air through my mouth? Excruciating. Hot and cold foods both hurt equally.

Front top incisors are tingling, almost like the gums have "fallen asleep." They don't hurt to eat though.

Aconite and Rescue Remedy? How should I time that?

Got plenty of Arnica sitting in the medicine drawer.

Wink

From one wimp to another!!!

I am here just for moral support. I also have panic attacks just thinking of the dentist! I have the dubious honour of being my dentists most anxious patient! But things have changed a lot in 10 years. It doesn't hurt anymore.

I broke a tooth and had to go to the dentist last week, he numbed the skin before he gave me an injection, and then waited until everything was numb so i didn't feel anything, not even the local going in. The sound of the drill is pretty awful still...can you take a walkman or something to listen to?

Honestly, you'll be fine...good luck!

Thumbs up

Hi Andyp.
What helped me,and i am a coward when it comes to a dentist visit is:
1. You decide that your dentist knows exactly what he's doing.
2. On the chair you take a brake, and be in charge of your spirit. you start counting, you are in charge of counting, when you get confused sart from 1 again.
3. Think about the young people who have major surgery for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
4. you're getting through a treatment that goes with the criteria of " what one has to do..."
Good luck and enjoy the relief that comes after the treatment.

Aconite 30c before when your anxiety level is most extreme, will calm you down. also take a few drops of Bach Flower, Rescue remedie ,arnica will help after with healing, exces bleeding etc. (you can even hold the aconite in your left hand when you are actually having the dental process done, it will help ....really)

Hi
Please take the Calc C 200, as GM suggested for the fear, and let us cowards know how you felt.
And take the Arnica afterwards for the dental work done.

Murphy - Mind
FEAR, dentist, of going to (4)
1 acon, 2 arg-n, 1 calc, 2 gels

Aconite is also one of 40 renedies in Fear of noise, so if this is why you are fearful Aconite maybe better.

If you are scared you are going to die then Gelsenium is the remdy and if you get diarrhoea before going to the dentist you'd be better with Arg. Nit.

Please let us know which you choose and how it goes.

Arnica before and after treatment is often a good idea if a lot of dentla work is being done.

Fear of noise? That's an interesting one. I don't fear it, but there are some that annnoy the hell out of me (crying/screaming kids, barking dogs).

I will let you all know tomorrow how things go. Have stocked up on Arnica, Aconite and Calc Carb.
